Ball Speed and Lift
« on: June 20, 2004, 06:55:54 PM »
I am in my first year back in bowling (I bowled when i was a kid) and I have just noticed one thing. Speed is paramount. Am I crazy or does shooting harder seem to be advantageous on the normal house shot? I had 158-145-256 last nite. I hit the headpin (sometimes pocket sometimes high or light) for 18 shots in a row without even one lucky strike. When I got mad and tried to emulate a Michelle Feldman type of shot (don't give me crap I said TRIED ha ha) and cranked up the ball for all it was worth I finished with spare 4 strikes 2 spares and 5 strikes. I never had much on the ball (bowling) as a kid. Is it me or is over-under related to ball speed more than anything else? I feel like I am playing a totally different game.

Thanks Bones. I always liked seeing strokers more than crankers. I wanted to emulate people like Brian Voss and Earl Anthony. It just appears that for me, on the condition I am bowling on, pretending I am Mark Roth seems to work for me. I seem to post high scores that way. This is totally opposite of what works at my normal winter house. Do you experienced players vary your delivery this much or do you just successfully change balls and lines to make up for drastically different lane conditions. I don't have a video camera but I think that if i taped myself at both houses I would almost look like a different bowler.
