Anyone still using a lighter spare ball?
« on: July 18, 2010, 08:01:41 PM »
I use only 15 lb balls. However, I was thinking of getting a 14 lb plastic ball, to try it out. What do you think?

I throw 15 for my strike ball..but my spare ball is 14 pounds because i dont have high ball speed so a lighter spare ball will let me throw it a little faster so that is doesnt have a tendency to hook when the lanes dry out in the 3rd game.  It just feels better in my hand being a pound lighter.

Through flattening your release or by using a plastic spare ball, the ball should go basically straight.  You don't need to throw it faster also.  Some people can switch back and forth but I wouldn't want to chance messing up my timing with two different weights.

Yes, I do.

My spare ball is 14 because I want more deflection for the 3-10 baby split. I''m throwing it at 1 or 2 pins most of the time so who needs the extra weight?

The other reason is that I''ve converted the 7-10 split three times since going to 14 for my spare ball, primarily because I can (if needed) speed it up a bunch and bounce pins out of the back and across the lane.

One more reason. Over the lifetime of a bowler how many 1 or 2 pin spare shots do we shoot at? LOTS!  It''s just a little less wear and tear on my body, which is not getting any younger...

I''ve never had an issue with it messing up my timing. (I do that in other ways).

my primary weight is 14lbs,

i still have a 12lbs plastic from when i started bowling since i was a kid. do u guys reckon its a good idea to use tat as a spare shooter?

what u guys have been talking up till now is a 1 pound drop for shooting shares. will a 2 pound drop cause problems?
