Anyone try this?
« on: August 26, 2008, 07:22:09 AM »
I was thinking how easy the ball cleaning wipes are to use, but the problem is they are quite expensive for how few you get. So I was thinking I might try to dry out a tub of clorox or lysol wipes or something and then take a bottle of cleaner and soak the wipes in the cleaner, for a kind of homemade wipe. Was wondering if this would be a problem with the chemicals from the clorox or whatever or if anyone had tried something similar with success.

I wouldn't do that.  Mixing CLorine and other chimicals is a badd thing.
What you could do is get a role of those heavy duty shop rags from auto zoneor some where and soak those becaue they haven't been treated with anything.

Yeah those would work unless he has a ball cleaner that he wants to use

Many people use simple green as a ball cleaner.

Not even baby wipes?? Just a thought.  Might be a bad idea.

And I kinda wanted to stick with the legends cleaner. Tried simple green but didn't feel the tackiness on the ball after using it, so I went back to normal cleaners. Just feel they do a little better job which is important when you use mostly all ebonite equipment...

I would just get the role of shop towels.
They are basically heavy duty paper towels (the blue looking things)
and they haven't been treated with anything.

Are they really thick? I just don't want to go through cleaner like crazy. I figure the thicker the are the more cleaner they will soak up.

I guess I could keep them in a ziploc and one towel might last a week.

I use my Ball Cleaner and Bounty Paper Towels. Just place the cleaner on the towel and throw it away. Always using a clean towel to clean the ball. I get plenty of stuff off my ball this way.

I have tried many other methods and this has been the most effective way for me so far.

Ok. While I like, heck love Legends cleaner, what you're proposing is a Baaad idea. Legends cleaner is just too quick to evaporate. So much so, it's almost as inflammatory as acetone. It goes up in vapors far too easily.

Please don't pursue this idea. It's unsafe from so many perspectives.

Use the Legends spray bottle and a towel or the Simple Green wipes.

SImple Green is like Clean and Dull in that respect: the ball must be washed off with water to get some residual unknown coating off the ball.
