Title: Are AMF Centers For Bowling Anymore?
Post by: skizzle on May 02, 2014, 03:15:37 PM
Is it me or has AMF turned there back on the league bowlers?  I remember a time where the AMF centers catered more to league bowlers and open play was more secondary.  Now it seems as though the AMF centers are more concerned with trying to remodel there centers to accommodate more entertainment options.  It seems like bowling has taken a back seat to the other amenities that the are now present in the centers.

I wouldn't be surprised if i see lazer tag, bigger game rooms, bars, ect.... soon. Other house with these "entertainment" options has much more traffic than the AMF house here.

I went to a non AMF house on a Sunday morning to practice and there was a line 25-35 people long! (At 9am) that's for bowling. They have a big snack bar with a full menu, pretty large game room, a private section of lanes for bowlers to glo bowl with leather coaches to kick back. And the lane guy will set a pair(s) for non THS patterns for league bowlers to practice on if requested in advanced.

They have a even bigger restaurant where it's packed in the weekends...pool rooms, live band, ect... They seem to cater to everyone.

It depends on the area and the manager.  The two AMF houses I bowled at were fine (one was good, the other great).  Where I live now the only center to convert to a "fun zone" is/was not an AMF house.

As far as I can tell, in my local AMF center, YES! that seems to be the situation.
