I'm not sure on this one... I notice the same thing you mentioned at tournaments, and the names on the house honor roll always seem higher on the men's side. I know there are a lot of women who bowl (I would be interested to see a breakdown of WIBC membership vs. ABC membership to see if bowling is 50-50 in participation), and I know there are many out there who would take my lunch money on the lanes. But I'm not sure why the difference seems so prevalent. My guess - and that's all it is - would be that in the past women may have been discouraged from participating in sports at a highly competitive level. Now that doors have began opening for their participation at this level, it will become more common to see females shooting the higher scores. If this is the case, then the women in bowling have yet to reach a point where there will be equality in avg scores between the sexes. I would also be interested to see how the womens averages have changed over the years - are they increasing year to year? If so, that would give a little support to my theory above. However, if it is declining or staying the same, I have no clue.
