Would you use this service
« on: March 28, 2005, 06:23:50 PM »
With all of the recent talk about bad transactions on this site, I am considering starting a free auction hosting section to my website.

This would give everyone a good way to monitor peoples feedback since the current system on here evidently does not work very well.

I just wanted to get some feedback to see how many users would be interested in using the service before I cough up the change for the software. I don't mind spending the money as long as people will use it.

Features
  • HTML editor for listings

  • Uploading of photos

  • Complete search function which searches entire database for products

  • The display of current users and current auctions

  • New user registration

  • Users login/logout

  • "Forgot your password?"

  • User defined usernames/passwords

  • Password retrieval via email

  • Free bids for registered users

  • BUY-IT-NOW FEATURE!!

  • PROXY BIDDING!

  • THUMBNAILS ON ALL MAJOR PAGES!

  • ALL CODE 'NETSCAPE COMPLIANT!'

  • Email notification of bids

  • Auctions: User defined Item descriptions

  • Users can upload pictures

  • Reserve prices, minimum bids

  • STANDARD/DUTCH AUCTIONS

  • View bid history

  • Auction Displays: Displayed seller name and information

  • Displayed quantity of items

  • Ability to send auction to a friend

  • Browsable categories

  • Displays the last created auctions

  • Displays the Highest bids

  • Displays Auctions ending soon

  • ITEM WATCH!

  • AUCTION WATCH!

  • ( Keyword(s) entered to search new listings)

  • Seller's Black List!

  • Seller's Invited Buyers List!

  • "Remember me" option on login

  • eBay like feedbacks on sold items only!

It does sound a lot like ebay, but I do like the word..."FREE"..that caught my eye, I'm cheap.

If you start it, they will come.

The best thing for everyone would be an insurance system whereby you get paid for losses. Not sure how many people would go for it maybe a $50 refundable deposit which is returned after three satisfactory tranactions.
It should be mandatory that an actual address and phone number be varified for each member. A valid credit card would be best but I understand some of the very honest younger members might have a problem.

A standard ball discription form along with the pictures.
When someone says less than 15 games and you find out that was after they bought it but they have no idea how old the ball actually is.
I personally have gotten balls with damage which was not mentioned but for the cost of shipping and trying to get your money back it's not worth it.
I believe we have recently had people join our site with the intention of defrauding.

To the few who replied I thank you, but this is no where near the response I need to merit shelling out $1000 to have an auction service with a lot of features, security, and insurance backing.
I could do it cheaper but the features would be limited and I wouldn't be able to back the insurance without the help of the higher end software.

Oh well I tried.

I didnt want to comment because I have never used an auction service like eBay before so I dont recognise most of the features you listed.  However, I would like to thank you for making the offer and hopefully some of the other users here who have used eBay or such, will make some comments in regards to your post.  And thanks again for putting together the FAQ.

Don't give up so quickly. You only gave us one day. Not everyone who might like to use such a service is on every day and "latest posts" being what they are, one might not see this until you search or someone else's reply gets the thread moved back to "Latest". I worked all day yesterday and was too tired to even open up a webpage, mostly.

I've basically stopped selling here for all the obvious reasons. Your proposal seems rational and covers a lot of the uncovered bases. There is NO system here; leastwise I am not going to try to read everyone's profile to see with whom they've had a good transaction.

I would use yours if it were easy to use, plus it had all the options or potential options you listed above.

Charlest is correct, and I'm sure I would use it. It sounds like a very good idea.

The features that I listed are a copy and paste direct from the auction software site.

The reason I said that there wasn't enough interest is because of the number of views to responses ratio.
I will wait and see what happens.

ST, I'm surprised you don't know by now, there is usually a couple hundred views per response.  I support the idea, though.

Sounds good to me and as seller/buyer on ebay for over 5 years it looks like you have most everything covered in your listing.

I'd give it a try.
