I just had my right hip replaced last tuesday. My orthopedist said I'd be back at work in 6 weeks..and when I asked him about bowling he said I'd be bowling before I am back at work.  Anyone else been through this? and how long did it take you to return to bowling?  I am already walking with a cane and in my condo feel ok to take steps without any aids. I have mobility at the moment and strength...as for flexibility and range of motion. my therapists are still working on it.  This seems to be the perfect time to have had the surgery(not that I could have waited any longer--was in pain) Since I don't think I'd appreciate bowling in Florida during covid.

One of my friends had a hip replaced. They had him on his feet walking around the next day. He was able to walk better almost immediately afterwards than before the surgery.

It took him a couple of months before he could bowl again and a couple of months after that to get back to work(as a general contractor), but then he is an old ass dude who didn't want to go back to work anyway.  ;D

He is a much better bowler after the replacement than before. I suspect he was in a lot of pain and just tried to ignore it, but now that it doesn't hurt he can concentrate.

Good Luck! Hopefully it will improve your game as well.

I think it all depends on the individual and their situation.  Had a co-worker last year get a hip replacement, and they were back at work the next day walking with crutches.  They overdid it, and had to work from home for several days after that but then were back to their normal in-office work schedule after about a week.

Someone I bowled with had their hip replaced.  Took several months off and didn't do any of the physical therapy (they said they didn't get the hip replaced just to have to then go through physical therapy), came back as a sub a couple of times, but then never returned to bowling after that.  They stop by to visit during league once in a while, but no longer bowl.

It's not just the arthritic hips, but I also have a spine disease called ankylosing spondylitis, I have a curved spine and my vertabrae are fused together in the pelvic and back area..there is nothing they can do to "uncurve" it, only attempt to make me more comfortable---but I am looking forward to resuming bowling at some point.
