Are you making hand adjustments?
« on: June 06, 2010, 02:42:22 AM »
Hi All,
This is another one of those topics that we could all use some practice on.  There are some basic concepts around affecting axis rotation that everyone should know to help us become more versatile.
You can easily multiply your arsenal by factors, not by purchasing 15 balls, but by making hand adjustments.

I wrote the following article mostly addressing axis rotation.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

ive seen those high average league bowlers shoot sub 500 on a tough shot cause their release was the same regardless.  they had no idea how to make hand/finger adjustments to help manipulate the ball to get the right ball reaction.  or they had no idea to watch ball movement on the lane to help make their decisions.

quote:
I learned that last season the hard way through little and short oil on the lanes - the only way to remain competitive was to take even more hand out of the release, without sacrificing a proper ball reaction.

this is what helped me more than anything.  I didnt think i was capable of it, and after weeks/month of practicing the form, it comes with ease now and feels just as comfortable.  Now I find myself staying in same spot with hand adjustment, or moving right and taking "hand" out of the ball more often than moving left.

this "art" is by far the most hidden aspect of the sport, imho.

As well, hand adjustments are not something that can easily be seen by the naked eye.  In other words, watching the same bowler make hand adjustments should look almost invisible when watching their hand.  The ball reaction should do the talking.
The point is, adjustments are pretty subtle, in other words don't go trying to change your release to affect hand adjustments.
