New ball for rev challenged
« on: March 22, 2007, 11:55:16 AM »
I am looking for 2 new balls.  One for dry and one for oily.  I am a tweener(love the second arrow) with average ball speed.  The problem is I am Rev Challenged.  I bought a black widow and it may be a good ball but not for me.  I would use 14# balls.  Thanks in advance.

Just got my wife a Storm Teal/Purple Tropical Storm. This ball has a ton of hook in it for the price point.

Ebonite Whirlwind has allllllllllllllot of hook. A basic simple lightbulb core as it has, its amazing. I am 450+ RPMS and the ball flat out hooks stupid. It's an amazing ball for such a cheap price.

No one will be able to make a valid recommendation based on what you have provided. We need to have some idea of what kind of oil you are bowling on now and and what balls didn't work and HOW they didn't work and maybe how they were drilled.

If you couldn't make a Black Widow hook (major hook in the box on TRUE medium oil or lighter), what amount of oil did you use it on and how was it drilled. It has a strong mass bias core and the drilling is of major importance to how well it hooks for for whom. That means is MUST be drilled for your release and delivery specs.

I bowl on heavy oil.  The layout is the strongest.  I think it is drill pattern #1.  I like to bowl over 8-10 at the arrows. Here is a picture of the layout and how it is drilled.  http://www.myspace.com/99888271  I could not get the BW to hook into pocket.  When the ball comes back I have 4 lines of oil.  On the xcel I can get that ball to hook more than the BW on the pattern playing the same line. I stay behind the ball and rotate my hand to end up trying to shake someones hand.

If you can get the Xcel to hook more then your BW then your BW is burning up to soon. Move deeper in to the oil... Oil is your friend...

That pin on the Widow is up pretty high...

For a ball that will hook...Roto Grip SD-73 Classic, Epic Battle, or Epic Odyssey, PIN DOWN, leveraged, with the MB in the strong position.

If you can't get one of those to wrinkle...you need a lot more help than some balls...you need some hand!

Aside from what people are saying, if you are looking to get the ball to rev a little bit better, you want a ball with a tight, compact core. Something like a total inferno, it can add one or 2 rotations to your ball.

It would help if we had your PAP to go with the layout photo.

I think if the BW is not coming back. it might be drier than
you think it is and the BW is just burning up.

If you have weaker ball you might try it first.

If I suggest a ball I would say the ROTO GRIP Horizon Solid.
And the Horizon Pearl

On Sunday I will find my PAP.  I'm going to go for a lesson.  I will see if they will take a video and post it after.
