Getting a more consistent release
« on: December 13, 2010, 06:04:32 AM »
Lately I've been struggling with keeping my release consisten after every shot. I'm usually feeling pretty good after thr first game but by the 2nd something just clicks over in my brain, and I can't figure out what it is. My arm feels fine, I use a wrist support (a by-product of a hand surgery). It's nothing physical other than maybe I tire out a little more.

If I stay focused and consistent, I cruise to an easy 700 every time. I've got a big league match coming up this weekend and I really want to get this sorted out. Does anyone have any suggestions of getting a more consistent release? Maybe something I can work on off the lanes? Any input would be appreciated

I have been having the same issue around the third game. i take it as fatigue as i have gotten older. Happens every week.....
Fri..259, 258, 177...694
sat..258, 226, 183...667

Last week:  Fri.....267, 238, 182....687
            sat.....276, 214, 165....655

Ive only shot one 700 this year, averaging in both leagues 210

The shot does breakdown, but when I release it right it no problem. It just seems that come that third game, I start dropping the ball and chicken wing it and miss to the outside. Im not sure how to get myself more energy. Im not even old..lol 40 yrs old, in decent shape...

Perhaps a little more detail about what is so inconsistant would help?  A release problem can a lot of times be a timing issue.

This will not help your upcoming match, but I would suggest reaading a book by John Jowdy called Bowling Execution. He is an advocate of the free armswing. Once you adopt this style, you will be amazed at how consistent your game as a whole will become.

The problem is mainly that I don't get out of the ball "clean". My thumb and fingers all leave the ball at the same time, giving me more sidespin than roll and causing me to pull the ball. The other problem I sometimes have is that I come otu of it a little flat and don't get my hand around the ball enough. This usually isn't as bad as the first problem, as the ball reaction usually saves me, but it's still something I'd like to fix.
