Ball Suggestions
« on: December 15, 2015, 07:29:18 PM »
So I have been bowling now for about 4 months now (No thumb release) and as a beginning ball I was a advised to get the Ebonite Cyclone. Love the ball but I want to add to the arsenal with something that has a look more break on the backend. Was looking at maybe the the Motiv Venom or Octane, Storm Crux, or the Brunswick Vintage Gold Rhino Pro. What are some suggestions?

While I don't have any firsthand experience with anything besides the Brunswick brands, I can give you some help.

The Storm Crux would be a big step up, from my observations.  We see tons of Storm here in Utah, so I'm fairly confident in that assessment.

The Gold Rhino Pro is best on the drier conditions.  It's cover is extremely clean through the heads.  If that's what you're looking for it does that very well.  If, however, you want a stronger ball I really love the Mastermind Einstein for it's versatility and overall strength.  A step down from that is our Brute Strength, with the Gold Rhino another step down.  Hope this helps.

If you are wanting big back end reaction my suggestion is the HyRoad Pearl. I know you didn't list it, but this is the biggest back end ball I have.

Of the balls you mentioned, the Gold Rhino will be similar to your Cyclone.  So I don't think it will be the step up you are looking for.  As notclay stated, the Crux is extremely strong and probably a little too big of a gap above your Cyclone.

That leaves the two Motiv pieces.  They are the correct strength I feel you are looking for, but it depends on the shape you want.  Depending on which Octane you are looking at, it can be very skid/snap.  The newer Octane Burn is more even rolling but still skid/snap.  The Venom series balls can be even rolling (Venom Shock) or have a little more backend (Venom Panic).  The Venom Shock may not give the appearance of what you want, but it will be more controllable.  The Venom Panic will have more backend and give you more of what you are looking for assuming you want something with a lot of backend.  Just be careful on what you wish for.

With all that said, your pro shop operator should be able to guide you in the right direction.  There are many more balls that fit what you are looking for than the ones you listed.  Good luck!!

I actually rolled one of these the other day and I must say I was quite impressed with it.

I appreciate the advice I been trying out some balls and found some balls I think would be suitable for my style. The Hyroad Pearl, Venom Shock, and the ascent apex. What are some of y'all thoughts on these choices?
