So What Averages Are Higher Today Vs 80's
« on: October 01, 2010, 05:40:36 AM »
Back in the 80's

1) Conditions were still pretty easy - walled up THS
2) House hacks averaged 200
3) House hacks thought they were as good as the Pros
4) House hacks got beat by the pros on tougher conditions and easier conditions
5) Skilled bowlers beat the house hacks most of the time

Today

1) Conditions are pretty easy - walled up THS
2) House hacks average 220
3) House hacks think they are as good as the pros
4) House hacks get beat by the pros on tougher and easier conditions
5) Skilled bowlers beat the house hacks most of the time.

So what is the problem?  Why is it so bad that the house hack average has risen to 220?  All the perceptions and truths remain the same for both periods of time.

Can someone explain in simple terms why is it bad that the averages of most bowlers in the 180 and above above category from the 80's probably have risen 10-20 pins due to the newer technology of bowling balls and even more walled up shots?  I can see the argument if only a certain segment of bowlers has benefited from this.  But I think it is safe to say that 95-99% of all bowlers who would have averaged 180 or better before the reactive resin era, have seen a gain in their average due to reactive resin equipment.
