Coaching
« on: February 05, 2014, 07:01:20 PM »
As you can imagine, quality advice and coaching are difficult to come by out here in Montana. As a ex-collegiate bowler & someone who grew up in a bowling alley, I feel as if my game is a few quality tips/advice away from the next level (whatever that level may be). Does anyone have any advice as to the best way to obtain some brief coaching or tips? Is there something online that people have had success with? Has anyone utilized the coach/video at the USBC Open Championships and was this worth the money?

I do not necessarily feel as if I need a coach there all the time, just some things to work on in order to get more consistent, better, etc.

Go to Amazon and buy THE GAME CHANGER by Mark Baker.

By far the best bowling book, with practical and useable information on fine tuning your game, that I have found.  It will help you throw your best shot more often!

Definitely something to try! Both books sound like great reads and both offer a lot of quality advice. However, how can you tell what your issue is (i.e. quick pushaway, fast feet, slow feet, quick swing, etc) without having someone watch? I am pretty consistent and usually put together 9 solid frames...

I have not read the above-mentioned book yet, but knowing the co-author, it's got to be good.

I suffer from short term memory loss due to laser-inflicted brain trauma!
Perhaps Rico will enlighten you and the last part...

One book will help you identify and create body mechanics that will help you repeat shots.  And from what others have said about Ric's book, it has helped them with the equally important mental side of the game.  Both feed off each other.

No book can truly identify a persons physical weaknesses, merely tell you what the pros do and generally speaking, what they do is what separates them from the rest. If you want to email me a video of your game I can touch on areas to target for possible improvement. Our book Head Games helps an athlete understand what they can expect as well as better understand thru competition as well as with changes...it better helps to identify their strengths as well as weaknesses...keep that in mind going forward

Ric,

If you don't mind, I would like to take you up on that offer. Do you have an email address you want them sent to? I have two quick clips, both in windows media player format, one behind view and one side view.

Also, I will definitely keep that in mind. I have had several instances where I needed a strike to win, or mark, and did not get it. That is where I believe your book would be perfect. Learning how to Really focus when I need to.

With the internet, you are only a video away from getting some quality coaching.  There are some services that allow you to use video and in return get quality coaching, some even do it for free.

Jim Merrell provides free instruction with video analysis.  Here is a link to the requirements:

Everyone needs a coach, all pro bowlers have a coach and Tiger Woods has a coach.
Seem like one of these coach's could help refine your game.
Good luck with your game.
