Keeeping head looking at target
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:58:25 PM »
For awhile now I have had problem keeping my eyes on my target. I start looking at my target and half way through my approach I look down at my feet, until I release the ball.

Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

Thanks
Hugh

Training and concentration. I used to have the same problem, but lately I got a much better concentration on my visual target. I used to look down instinctively. I cannot tell how I was able to improve on this - but I focussed on my upper body posture, keeping my shoulders square and chin high. I guess this helped much, indirectly.

i used to do that same thing.  when i started looking at my target, i would instinctly revert back to bad habits because it felt as though my release was cleaner looking down.  in reality it was just a m atter of getting used to something you're not accustomed to.  it took me about a good 2weeks of bowling to get used to looking at the target and since then i havent looked back(or i mean down..haha).
just with anything it takes awhile to get rid of bad habits.

I went thru a period when, rather than look away from my target, I would blink sometime between my second and 4th step.  I couldn't control it.  Then, for no known reason, I just stopped.  Strangest thing.

Training and focus, as Dizzy stated.  Your head will follow your eyes, not the other way around.  I used to look down at my feet also, I used to drift a little taking me off my target line.  The way I corrected that was to focus solely on my target until I saw the ball roll over it.  Now, when I get on the approach, after I set my starting point, the only thing I focus on is hitting my target.

uhmm i never had that kind of problems, but i ve seen people struggle with it.

what i said to them is to watch few professional videos and come back to me.

dont have big examples but if you can, watch Barnes from the front point of view, his eyes are deadly stuck to his mark. Thats because the foot work and the release are stable, so the hand will follow the eyes.

the other problem was "blinkin" between steps, thats something i have had in the past. first thing i asked in a alley was, turn off the air conditioning thats facing the aproach, with the aircon up, its almost innevitable to blink during the approach. What i do on my routine is to have my eyes closed when im standing on the point i want. thats 2 second before the first step.

hope it helped
