Association All Star Team

Our association is looking looking at creating an all star team (and bowler of the year) to be awarded each year.  We're having trouble coming to a consensus on how this should be determined.

Some say we should just use an individual's league scores, plus performance in association tournaments.  The problem with this is that it's apparent some houses are drastically easier than others.  This also wouldn't take into account individuals only participating in Challenge leagues.

I'm just curious to see what other associations are doing and how.

Our local association uses a point system based on where the bowler finishes in a given league. So if you finished the league with the highest average, then you get 5 points, 4 for second etc.

There are no points awarded for over all book average, so this system takes the house conditions out of the rankings.

There are points for 300 games and 800 series.

The association Masters top ten receive points, based on finish.

The association tournament gives points, based on finish in Team, Doubles, Singles and All-Events for the top five finishers in each.

The five bowlers with the highest point total is first team, next five are second team.

There are also Senior and Ladies All Star teams as well.

Love the idea of ranking within the individual league/house in order to avoid house comparisons. 

Say an individual bowls multiple leagues in different houses.  Does each league they bowl in get treated as a separate "entry"?

Yes, so if you bowl in more leagues your chances of making the All Star team is improved. I have yet to see someone make the All Star team bowling one league a week.

We have several items that earn points.  These include honor scores, league average, finishes in our local city tournaments, state tournament and national tournament.  Points for tournaments are based on scratch finishes.  Handicap tournament finishes do not count.  The recap is too long for this post, but you can find the complete list at www.daytonbowler.com.
Click on records and then all city teams.  There are similar criteria to determine eligibility for our local hall of fame.
