Found this on the Track website:  

Symmetric means you could cut the core in half anywhere you wanted to and the 2 pieces you end up with would be identical. An asymmetrical core means there is something on one side of the core that is not on the other, such as an "arm" sticking out, which creates a mass bias.

As for one being an advantage over the other for a particular style, not true. A mass bias (asymmetrical) is more driller friendly, you can fine tune the reaction of the ball with where you place the mass bias on the ball...the further away from the VAL, the later it rolls and vice versa....while a symmetrical core you can not do that.

I have noticed over the years asymmetrical balls that are drilled with the mass bias strong tend to be very picky in reaction, meaning a slight variation on your release and it could give you a totally different look on the lanes from a previous shot.....symmetrical balls are not as touchy..
