Title: Asymmetrical Suggestions
Post by: Helluvahobbybowler on November 15, 2016, 03:05:06 PM
Looking for an asymmetrical piece that'll give me a more aggressive down lane reaction than Scandal on med-heavy oil.  Thinking of Absolute Nirvana or Tyrant.  Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a pearl or solid? Aggressive can be 2 totally different motions. Is the scandal burning up?

If you're looking for heavy oil balls that don't hook at your foot, there's also the Trident from Motiv and Inception from 900 Global.

I'm looking for a solid asym.  The Scandal burns up a little and is not finishing strong enough.  I end up leaving 2-3 10 pins in the first game and the ball doesn't come alive until the 2nd game.

If you are looking for the most hook on that condition, I would aim for the Absolute Nirvana or even the DV8 Grudge (sharper down lane for me than the Absolute). If you're truly looking for something truly medium-heavy that's a little more versatile, I would go for the Mastermind Strategy or DV8 Vandal Smash (Sharper down lane for me than the Strategy). All of these are Solids and Asymmetric.

From my perspective, if the Scandal isn't enough on the line you are playing, then you are playing the wrong line.  You might have to move your feet.  Not sure how much extra help you are going to get with another heavy oil ball, asymmetric or symmetric.

Why not just adjust the surface on the Scandal?  Box is 500/2000.  Why not take it to a true 2000 and see what happens?

Thanks. I thought about changing the surface but didn't know if picking up a solid asymmetrical piece would make more of a difference. Right now I'm as far right as I can go without being in the dry.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Scandal. It's been one of my go to balls. I guess for this particular house shot it's not strong enough down lane at least in the first game. Over the past 4 weeks, I've been averaging 2-3 10 pins in just the first game. I can't direct it too much because of the early roll and I'm already as far right as I can get.

Hit it with a fresh 2000 pad...I did notice it lane shines pretty easily

Sounds like you want/need something that stores energy a bit better and has more on the backend. The Scandal not working because it's burning up early makes sense. The Trident, Guru Supreme, Grudge Hybrid, and Warrior Elite all come to mind as balls that fit the bill.

I wouldn't stick too strictly to wanting a solid over a hybrid, it's surface that matters. Although I wouldn't generally go with a sanded pearl ball if you do prefer something more solid-like in it's reaction. There is a difference in that case.
