Attacking flatter patterns

How should one attack flatter patterns when they are fresh?  Does the straighter is greater policy still apply?

I generally move in a bit and play straighter lines, so the ball doesn't have to cross too many boards to find pocket. This assumes the flatter pattern also has decent volume to it.

It depends on whether you mean flatter or flat I suppose.

On flatter patterns, I try to play a little straighter, and pick the ball depending on volume and length, moving in and trying to increase backend later in the block.

If the oil is flat, I'll use something strong and early rolling, see how far the ball will hook. If the ball hooks, say, 9 boards, I'll play straight down 8th and just try and make good shots until the lane opens up a little, then jump in and use that area.

When I encounter flatter patterns, I just go home

But in all seriousness, use the least amount of hand possible and let the ball do the work.  Straighter is DEFINITELY greater until a spot on the lane starts to open up.

I get in deeper and try not to give the pocket if it is a longer flat pattern usually using stuff that has a little more backend so it moves when it clears the oil not when it is still in the oil.

On Shorter patterns or when their is alot of friction i will try to swing it to the friction zone and let it bounce. Usually though your best bet is the first two sentences.

Usually use more late reading stuff, the heavy oil balls tend to take away from the angle instead of adding to it, because they are reading to early. And if you can create angle you can create a little more carry.

Get the bowlers on your pair to blow a hole in it.

Okay kidding aside. This can very effective. Maybe some can shed a light on how to do this.

Take dull stuff in practice and just toss it up 10, then bump left and swing it into zone you dried out in practice.
