No Thumb Advice
« on: February 22, 2010, 12:18:38 AM »
Hi Guys,

Just looking for some help here. I have been bowling for about 10 years, and very recently had a serious accident that has resulted in me losing part of my thumb on my right hand, and to be honest whats left aint much use now anyway!!!

I want to carry on bowling and want to learn the no thumb technique. Could any of you who bowl no thumb give me any pointers, or could anyone give me a heads up on where to look for any tips online? I just want to be able to carry on throwing and enjoying my bowling.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Sorry for your accident. A few years ago I switched to a no thumb release. Start with a 12 # ball and work your way up in weight. Use milder balls as you will have more rotation than speed and your ball will overhook in the beginning. A power groove or tropical storm is a good ball to start with. Keep the pin at finger height and right of your fingers as most no thumbers roll over the finger holes. Try to roll the ball off of your hand and learn to project it right. (for a RH) Don't try to lift the ball as the last thing you'll need will be extra hook. Plastic for right sided spares is a must. I hope this helps and good luck!
