What is a high game to you??
« on: March 05, 2004, 01:10:49 AM »
Well, I was sitting and thinking about how many "high" games I have thrown this year and then thought, well, what is a high game?? Is a high game anything shot over 220,230,240 etc....

I understand that different people will have different standards as to what a high game would be to them. Obviously someone who averages 220 and shoots a 230 probably wont look at that as a high game. However if someone who averages 190 shoots the same score, he does think its a high game. Personally if I shoot anything over a 240, its a high game. Not that 220's and 230's dont mean anything, they are still 40+ pins higher than my average. But if I shoot a 240 or better then I consider that to be a high game. So what do you guys think??

I'm always having fun at the 230 mark.

People say what a good sport I am, competitive a gentleman.
At 200-,(I think I'm a jerk)!

At 250 plus I'm a very happy and gracious fellow.

When I get in the 250 groove somethin beautiful is happening and I like it!

PS It's funny how if your not top notch(230 average guys on here).  How one gets in streaks of no 250s and then one every set!  I had a nice cycle going with my son where he'd go, "Dad, you've got a chance at 300 again today", nearly every time he and I went.  Really fun for me and the fun lovin little guy!  And then it was gone!

It also depends a little on how you look at it.  If I throw a 260 plus, and earn it, I'll be pretty happy, but if I throw the same score and don't bowl so well, I'm still happy to have the score, but face the realization that the same shots could produce a 200 the next game.  Example, in league Wednesday night, I threw a pretty decent first game.  However, I left a solid 9 as well as a solid 7 (solid, not mixer) and a few ring 10's, and only shot 213.  I FELT like I bowled 240 or 250.  The second game, I pulled out a different ball and went the front 10 right off the bat.  I had a mixer or two, and a couple of 10's kick out for 288.  I wasn't quite as comfortable as I'd been the first game (the ball I went to and I haven't been getting along very well so far), but I threw some pretty good shots.  I SCORED 288, but felt more like I threw a 230 and MAYBE a 240.  The last game I absolutely buried everything, and left 4 RING 10's.  I felt ON, and only shot 236.  That game felt like it should have been the 288, and I honestly believe I could have shot the 300.  It's funny how it works out that way.  The two games I felt I threw the ball the best I got tapped, and the game I was a little uncomfortable in was the game I scored the best.

I have a temper, but I'd rather make quality shots and get tapped than make poor shots and carry.  Because sooner or later the quality shots will start falling, and if you add in a break or two, you've got yourself some honor scores.  I'm a lot calmer getting tapped than I am making bad shots.  95 percent of the time I have a temper flare, it's because I made what I felt was a bad shot.  Of course, if I've got the front 8 or 9 and leave a solid 7, 8 or 9, I'd probably be a tad miffed, but lol, I really doubt that'll happen much unless I start throwing the ball a lot better than I have been.

I have a fast rising 170 average, and as long as I stay above that I don't get too upset about it. But I consider games 200 and above to be good games for me.

I have different levels of "HIGH" games...

Up to 30 pins over my average (170-200) is...GOOD
30-60 pins over my average (200-230) is...GREAT
60-100 pins over my average (230-270) is...OUTSTANDING
100+ pins over my average (270+) is...UNCONSCIOUS

I've been GOOD a lot (especially the last several weeks), GREAT sometimes (several times over the last few weeks), OUTSTANDING on ocassion (once a couple of weeks ago), but never have I been UNCONSCIOUS...YET!

Once I get my average to where I think it shoud be...185-190...I'll have to restructure my opinion of "HIGH" games.

A high game to me would be anything over 240, as I average between 200-210. I've only had one score in my regular league above 240 ( a 265) but in tournaments I've had at least 4 games above 240 this year.

Like others have said, anything over 200 really insn't a bad game, but I don't get too excited about anything less than 250s.

with all the changes (for the better) in my game this season,...I'd have to say 230+ is a high game for me....last season I might have said 240=250+.....

if i can take care of business, i am usually happy. what i mean is that if i have a CLEAN game, i usually bowl well and the strike keep coming. take last week in league, for instance:

a 62 in the 5th(open-spare-open-spare-open), then threw 7 strikes in a row after re-grouping. THATS an awesome game to me. we won that set by 9 pins, and we needed the win. if i hadn't pulled my head out of my anus and thrown a 212, we would have been screwed. i threw 2 big 4's and a 7-10 in the first half... with my pace that game should have been in the 258+ range had those 3 balls had not gone high.

my highest game ever is 257. anything over 220 is a damn fine game. i average 170 or so.

i don't care who makes it, how much it costs, or how sexy the ball looks. can i carry the 7 and level the deck with a $60 ball?

240 and up...

What I wouldn't give for three 240's

If you don't knock them all down with the first ball, that's no reason to leave any after the second ball.
