I am suprised
« on: July 28, 2007, 01:39:45 AM »
I haven't bowled for like 14 years except a few times with friends at discobowling, last time was at least 5 years ago. Yesterday I tried again with a friends old crappy ball that didn't fit very good.

first game I pretty much tried to get the feeling of my previous skills and they actually was there. Biggest problem was to not drop the ball to early cause the thumb hole was to big. I should of used some tape but as this time was meant to just feel it I didn't really bother.

second game went very good, took my spares except one that was 4,10 :-P

third game started very good with a turkey but then around 7:th frame I tried to hook a bit more which was a bad idea with this crappy nonfitting ball.

Conclusion, I got very thrilled and I will begin play again.

my scores was 100,199,176

When I used to bowl when I was 14-16 my best season average was 192. With a new ball and some training I belive I can quickly improve. But for me the most important thing is that it is fun.

Just redrill your current ball and practice a little bit. Yeah you might need some coaching to get your timing back. The new ball I would wait until you are ready. Now that I think about this getting a new ball and practicing you can learn everything all at once. Best of luck.

You should also check to see if any of the bowling alleys in your area offer "anyball" leagues. That way, you can get back into bowling in a fun league and then get a new ball when the league is over.

someguyintucson, Aha, cool, we do have something like that I think.

As for redrilling the ball I used, That wasn't my ball but I could prob buy it from him for like a dollar. my own old ball is only 13 or 14 pounds I think it would be bad to begin training with that when I buy a 15 pounds later.

I think I will buy a cheap used storm diablo that my bowling alley has, it is only used 10 games. I only need to figure out what drilling I am going to use.

Don't worry much about the layout.  The important thing for you as a beginning bowler is to get a good fit.  Your release is going to vary so much that your PAP won't be stable until you get some practice in.  I would put the pin right and slightly above the RF and the cg at grip center.  This is the recommended layout for someone with an unknown PAP.  In six months or so you should be experienced enough that you'll want to get another ball, that's when you can work with layout to fine tune your reaction.  --  JohnP

Thank you very much John, I thought it was much more important with drilling layout but now I know it doesn't really matter until I get more experience.
