« on: December 28, 2009, 03:31:45 AM »
Has anyone taken a lesson at the Kegel Training Center?

My girlfriend purchased a full day lesson as my Christmas gift and I was wondering what should I expect.

I would also would like to know if the day of training helped your game.

Thanks,
Gil

Didn't have time to get online yesterday, but as far as Wed at Kegel, it was a long, but very good day.  I worked with Steve Neff and Dell Warren and after some time to get loosened up and shoot some initial video, we deceide to work on a couple of problems with my upper body movement.  This was causuing me to pull my right shoulder closed at release as well as causing some excessive head movement.  This in turn, had the effect of makeing it hard to truely repeat shots.

Since I booked a full day session, we had plenty of time for working on the problems and doing the video analysis.  As others have stated, you leave with a DVD of vidoe with a lesson plan of things to work on, CATS analysis.  While we did notice some improvement over the day, it will take more work to get to where I need to be.  The one very positve observation was that we did not need to make any adjustments to my timing and ball position at release.

At lunch, I had Dell layout a new Storm Virtual Energy and used that for a while during the afternoon.  The fit is perfect and the reaction is exactly what I was looking for with that ball.

Will I go again, absolutely, althoug I think that next time I'll do a have day.  My wife really wasn't thrilled about not having the car for the whole day, bu you never know, maybe I'll do another full day.

Here is my review of the Kegel Traing Center.

I would have to say it was well worth the money.

I started by warming up a few frames, after the warm up I threw 10 shots to get a CATS reading. My numbers looked good so he (Randy Stoughton) said he was going to work my approach & arm swing.

The first thing we worked on was my 2nd step of my 5 step approach. He said that my right foot needed to be in front of my left foot to clear a path for the ball. It sounded like a simple task until I tried it. I felt like I was tripping over my own feet. It took me a while but I eventually got the hang of it.

My next issue was my backswing. I was rushing the swing so I was sliding and releasing the ball at the same time, which was keeping my speed and rev rate down.  He had me delay the ball in my back swing just enough so I could get to the line, stop then the ball could come through.  Another not so easy task.

The last thing we worked on was my knee bend and shoulder tilt. He had me keep my trail foot on the ground and the palm of my off hand facing the ceiling. The trail foot on the ground translated into a deeper knee bend and the palm up kept my shoulders in a good position.  I had been dropping my off hand which was keeping my shoulders too square to the line.

At the end of the day all my CATS numbers went down but I felt my swing was straighter and my approach was smoother. I know it will take time to feel comfortable with all the changes but in the end it will make me a better bowler and isn’t that what we are all looking for?

PS

A special thanks to EBO4LIFE!!!
He went out of his was to get me and my girlfriend free passes to Disney World.
