What is considered a good average now adays?   When I was growing up in a 200 average meant you were a good bowler and things have changed.

IMO a 220+ is a good average I am currently at 215 working my way up this season.

I never thought I would be anywhere saying this but a "good" average IMO is about 220-225.

I average 223 for 7 weeks at my house.. For juniors on Saturday mornings.. (I'm only 16)

For the sport shot tournaments I am, for the past 2 months, I average around 199..

How to define "good".

As far as PAR bowling (a score you would expect an accomplished bowler to average) on the THS conditions around here I would say 225 to 230.

i think if after 32-36 weeks in league and you finish with a 215 or better then you are doing good

there arent a whole lot of bowlers in my house that are doing that

the house or center matters to me also

i can drive down the road a bit to a diffrent house and there are bunches of people who finish the season 220-230 its like adult bumper bowling, and i prefer a challenge.

same guys @ my house avg 200-210 are going up there to avg 220-230
go figure

The best in our house is 245. A "Good" average at our house is 220+. Anyone over 210 is better than most. However, there are a few guys that have been in the same league, same house since forever, that grip it and rip it, and average 210+. I don't consider them "good" bowlers, but they do o.k. on that particular shot.

I think that the better question, is what is a good bowler. A good average varies from house to house, and at every house, a few bad bowlers, carry good averages.

Average really means nothing.  Last year in the center we were at no one averaged 200! I average better at Nationals.  There were some decent bowlers but the conditions were tough.  Across town 230 was decent.

Rather than looking at average, which varies for house to house, I think you should aim to be the top 10% bowlers (in terms of average) for every league that you are in. If you are, then you’re doing pretty well.

Even though a good average is nice to have and a bit of an ego boost having a good average is less significant than how you bowl against other high level bowlers in serious tournaments or on different/challenging patterns.

I know of a few bowlers who have good league averages (220+) but struggle when it comes to tournaments when they come across bowlers who are as good/better than they are or a variety of different conditions meaning they cannot play their "A" game.

Go ask some 100-150 average bowlers and they'll tell you that 190 average bowlers are awesome.  Ask those 190 average guys and they'll say 220 guys are the elite.

For our house and our shot...it takes 221 to make the top ten in average for the house.

at my house 200 still carries some merit.  right now i believe we have 1 or 2 people over 220.  i am 2nd in one league 4th in the other league, both averages in the 210's.  220 is a tough average to carry there.

go bowl on a PBAX league and you'll see what a good average is.

I figure if you can average 190+  on a PBAX league, your pretty good.

house hacks who average 230 make me laugh!!!!

The medium league average for male bowlers is 178. So as far as league bowling goes par(200) is still a pretty good average. The best bowlers would be 210 and above. But as others have stated, it all depends on the THS you are bowling on. We all don't bowl on the "great wall of china" for our THS.
