Average Embarrassment
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:12:07 AM »
Have you ever suffered average embarrassment?

Not from being too low but being too high?

I'm feeling slighly embarrassed this summer with my average. With going into details it is about 15 to 20 pins higher than I have ever averaged. And I know I'm not that good.

The league is set up for scoring, 4 to a pair, bowl 2 games, switch pairs and bowl 2 more games. But I've bowled this format before and never had this happen.

It is probably a perfect storm for me, right ball, right speed, right condition. But I still can't help feeling uneasy.

I'd say most realize you're just having a dream matchup.  Hitting the pocket isn't all that tough at that house, but carrying like you are is really insane.

Likely sucks for those you're whipping every week.  Enjoy while it lasts and just smile.  You've been around long enough to have been down 20 pins.

Congrats on the many honor scores you're accumulating.

Summer league averages can go either way.  Sounds you are in a doubles league and bowling on fresh lanes.  Because the play is minimal, the lanes are not changing that much and you are able to stay in the same area probably for most of the night.

Take it for what is worth - Practice summer league.

The worst part about it is that if you get more than 21 games, it goes down in the book.  So, next season when you go to bowl tournaments, you have to use this summer average instead of your "typical" fall league average.  If I am wrong please tell me.  But last I heard, this is true.

Use this summer to hopefully have some confidence going into the upcoming fall season.  You never know.  This could carry over and I would not feel that bad at all.

Most Summer leagues aren't sanctioned through the USBC, honestly. It just depends on the house and if they do sanction it or not. I usually bowl leagues that aren't throughout the summer just so when I work on my mechanics and such, it won't be a glaring spot in the book.

The league is sanctioned, I wouldn't bowl in it if it wasn't.

I already have 32 games in so it will be booked, 2 weeks (8 games) left.

I'm already scratch in tournaments so handicap isn't an issue.

It is just you get the people who go why don't you go pro (I have had some of that for years). But I'm almost 60 years old, retired, don't practice, and the numbers are just goofy.

I should just relax and enjoy it and I do for the most part. But I still feel out of my element and everyone looking at me.

Enjoy it. Have fun.  Which from the sounds of it you are.  There's nothing to worry since you are already scratch in tournaments anyway.

Be proud of it....for me, it takes hard work to carry an average that high. People are gonna hate no matter what you do. Dont be embarrassed about working hard. Take Pride!

Enjoy it!!! I bowl at a house with old wood lanes, changes sport shots regularly, and my average is embarrassingly low. It's a challenge and very frustrating, especially when the shot changes seemingly from frame to frame.  I don't remember the last time I've seen a morale boosting house shot.   :o

Maybe you should enter a senior regional.

When bowling in the jr/adult leagues with my son, I will sometimes feel the "average embarrassment. I try to be as low key as possible. It's about the kids but some parents give me dirty looks. I'm mean just because I ran over a few kids running out my second 300 of the season and spiked my bowling towel. I mean come on.
