Average Imrovement over 5 years...?
« on: November 06, 2008, 06:43:26 PM »
Just curious as to what the average pin # improvement is around...feel free to post how much youve improved in the past 5 years or so...

I was looking at my profile on bowl.com, 02-03 I held a 136 average, in 06-07, I held a 211 average...so about 80 pin if im correct...

First year of bowling. 167 winter, 191 summer, and now I'm in the PBAX 140s. S**T, but its a different house. The approaches is pissing me off, its in consistent, sometimes I feel like I'm slipping and sometimes sticking. Etonic shoes, pad #6

I really can't make an honest comparison, as I'm in and out of bowling alot.  between deployments and a injury to my wrist, I bowl at the most for 8-9 months before I'm gone for 6 months to a year.

However, I am at my best start to date, but still so so early.

For one thing it’s a clear indication that today's equipment is ever improving, even compared to not so long ago.

I firmly believe that when one gets to an advanced level the key to good shot making is envisioning proper fundamentals over and over.  Kind of like having lanes in your mind that you are able to practice at a moment’s notice.  You appear to have reached that level.

Yes the THS game today may be easier than ever due to the combination of tremendous technical advancements in ball technology and easier lane conditions, but to improve without actual physical practice, something else is in the works here.

When I first began bowling in earnest many years ago, my best friend's mom (may she rest in peace) told me that it's important to think about proper technique in order for the body to get the message—I am forever thankful for her most influential and positive piece of advice.

Keep up the good work.  Imagine if you actually do start practicing a little—you will most likely improve even more dramatically.

02-03 wasn't a good comparison, I had 60 total games in that year due to deployments.  So:

03-04:
214 w/90 games(THS)
202 w/87 games(THS)
176 w/33 games(Shot was different every week, rotating pattern league)

07-08:
229 w/66 games(THS)
222 w/107 games(THS)
Tourney average of 205+ on a variety of sport conditions.

I credit my improvement to finding a coach that willing helps me as much as I want.  All I have to do is call and say, "hey I'm throwing the ball like crap, can you take a look?".  He never says no.

I have also worked on being more versatile.  I was a one look wonder and wasn't able to create a look when I didn't have one.

mmm that yr, i was a bit off, lol high average was 204 that yr.

But the yrs before and after, i was around 210.

after quitting in in april 05, and taking it back up this yr.

My sanctioned league :  mid 180's    lol

Non sanctioned league :  after the first two weeks, I've been consistently shooting mid 600's.   And I use a old Red hammer lol.

Both leagues are second shift, and the only practice i do, is the 10mins they give us before league.

So, like joebowler said, tell me the game isnt getting easier lol.  And the only new ball i have is the Gravity Shift.   And I generally rotate which ball I use on the sanctioned league and play a different line each week.

Well I just started back bowling after a forced 6 year retirement due to a bad back. 6 years ago I had a 209 and a 203 average in 2 different houses. Now after back surgery (3 fused vertebra) I'm trying to get back into bowling, unfortunately some nerves were damaged and my legs below my knees don't work so good...sometimes it feel like I'm wearing deep sea divers lead boots. Now I'm averaging 195 in a regular house shot and 180 in a PBAX league.

Never bowled in YABA and didn't take the game very seriously until I started working at a bowling alley in 2001.
