Average increase in 1 year
« on: July 30, 2004, 05:53:40 AM »
Im just wondering what kind of average increases other members have had in a 1 year time frame ?

This year (aug 03 to aug-04)
I bowled 4 leagues 1 mens,2 mixed, 1 mixed summer
I started out in aug 03 at a 129 ave and finished now at the end of july with
a 162 ave. 33 pin increase. Im not sure how that stands up with most of you all out there but I would like some responses from you

good-bye

Well, I had a 167 two years back. Only subbed enough to get an ave the following year, got a 157.
Then last summer I went from 3 to 4 step. Was down to like a 119 for a while when I did that, got most improved for that summer. Went up to a 154 or something like that.
This past winter I went back to the 168.
I feel I'm a much better bowler now that I went 4 step.
One year I jumped 20 pins in one summer when my son bought me a pinkish or violet hammer, loved that ball.

I went from 182 to 198 one year.
Next year, from 198 to 220.
38 pins in 2 years.

And - I don't know if others agree or not, but it's a LOT easier to go from 120 to 140 than it is from 200-220.

Worked that way for me also, but in the wrong direction. I went from 194 last year to 183 this year. Worse year since 1989.

I sucked this whole past year, so my average dropped.

Most improved on a 24 team men's league for last season.  + 18.73 pins.
I've only been sanctioned and serious for the past year and a half and now I hope to improve another 15 or so pins this year with what I've learned over the summer.
I used to think that changing balls was more necessary than adjusting my line, etc...
Looking over my year end stat sheet I noticed my second game average was quite a bit lower than my first or third games.  I was more interested in grabbing a different ball than figuring out how to adjust. That's one of the things that I'm going to try to stay away from this year.

Well lets see, I started bowling about a year and a half ago so its not much to go on, but started with a low 100 average, around 110, and as of right now Im averaging around 175-180.

the thing you need to remember is that increasing from the lower 100's to the mid to upper 100's is only a matter of a few more made spares per game.  by simply practicing and getting more and more experience, your average should start to go up if you are starting in the lower 100's.  going up 33 pins to a 168 has been done before...but it shows that you are definitely on the right track...bowling all those leagues helped you get better accuracy and become more comfortable.  it only takes 2 or 3 marks a game to shoot 120...now you are probably getting around 6 or 7 marks per game in the 160's.  when you start trying to advance into the 190's and 200's, where consistently striking becomes necessary, it may get a little more difficult.  but for now, you are definitely on the right track...nice season!

Didn't bowl in league until January last season after a 10+ year sabatical from the game...started at 164, dropped to 162, and finished with 178.

Looking for 190+ this season...

My average has basically stayed the same. It dropped 5 pins the first half of the season and increased 5 pins for the last half. I have been very inconsistant, mainly because I've tried different styles of play during this season. I've settled on a middle road of what i started the season as, and what I ended the season as, so hopefully my average will start increasing again
