Average turned into USBC
« on: May 02, 2013, 11:37:03 PM »
Just out of curiosity, when do secretaries have to turn in league averages from the current season. I thought it was May but Im not sure. And if our league ain't done, and you finish higher or lower, can you use your final league average instead of book avg.

Usually it is in the first two weeks of April and varies by local asscoiation and no, you cannot use what you finished with, you have to use the book average.

I'd like that better than what Detroit does.  It's April 1st, I do believe.  Season's not even over and they want the averages.

And the Detroit baggers go nuts with their scores after April 1.

It used to be averages as of May 1st.  Not sure what it is currently but probably still the same.

I believe most times it is book average that is asked for.  There may be tournaments that ask for final league averages but without bringing in a copy of the league sheet, it would be difficult to verify whereas with the book average, much easier.

I just don't understand why they turn averages in so early, should be by June 1st to make sure all fall leagues are done and true averages are listed. I know 4 weeks don't make a difference after a 36 week league, but still.

Although the policy is illogical to me, here it is:

From http://www.mdusbc.com/Main%20Pages/calendar.htm

"April

Please complete pre-printed yearbook average sheets before the designated deadline of April 15, 2013 (AVERAGES UP TO AND INCLUDING APRIL 1st), making sure all required information is included and returned to MDUSBC office.  If secretaries have not received forms, they should call the MDUSBC immediately at (888) 753-6350."

So much for 1000000000%  ::)

In our association, it's been April 15 for as long as I can remember.

When I lived in Colorado, though, it was the end of season average that got sent in.  I remember them looking at me funny when I asked about the cutoff date for book averages.   :o

Not in Detroit it isn't.  Was league secretary for 15 years.  They wanted the averages as of April 1st turned in by April 15th.  Took a while to find my old papers.

I stand corrected - I thought it was May 1st but my memory is obviously failing faster than I thought.

Our leagues don't end until mid-May so that early April date does leave a lot of time for sandbaggers to get to work and make a late season jump in the standings if they were wanting to.

Sandbaggers making up pins in the last four weeks of a league?  Pretty damn hard thing to do considering amount of pins already knocked down and amount of games already bowled.  Let's say a guy has a 186 average after 81 games with 15098 pins knocked down with four weeks to go (takes you from 4/1 to 5/1). He shoots an even 700 on each of the last four weeks, he brings average up to 192.  I'm sorry, I just don't see the big advantage that he has gained in future tourneys or even next year in league by having a four week gap from time averages are submitted and end of league.
