Award ring quality..
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:41:11 PM »
Does anyone here remember exactly when the quality of ABC's award rings started getting lower(and cheaper)? Did it happen gradually, or was it a sudden change?
I've seen award rings from the 60's, and they definitely put the rings ABC gives out today to shame.

I don't remember *exactly,* but for some reason, 1980 comes to mind.

A friend of mine shot 300 in 1978, and got a really nice ring.

Another friend of mine did so in 1981, and his ring wasn't quite as nice.

I know it's gotten easier to get the honor scores these days: heck, even I have several of them, and I'm not really that good. Instead, why not be able to earn 1 of each of the honor awards, that is, 1 ring, 1 plaque, 1 jacket, for each score level. If you bowl more honor scores after that, you'd have to pay for another ring, or jacket, or plaque, or whatever, if you really wanted them. That way, the ABC wouldn't have to pay for anywhere near as many awards. Or how about this: have another award plaque, a bigger one, with space for those little plates like they put on trophies. Then for every honor score you bowl, ABC sends you another plate to put on your plaque. Not very flashy, but still nice, and fairly cheap for them to make.
