I'm Mad!!!
« on: January 18, 2004, 03:00:11 AM »
I’m just a little confused here.  We’ve got the best bowling site possible.  Everyone from beginners to professionals asking questions and receiving ideas on how to improve our games.

Inevitably though, every time some one posts a good score or a large improvement in average there is someone that claims, “They must be bowling on a wall”.  P I s s e s me off to no end.

I’ve hit bowling alleys in almost every state.  I have yet to find a house that didn’t have a wall.  Lets be honest, no matter what type of shot or how big a wall you are shooting on, you still have to be consistent to maintain a high average.

Instead of belittling these find young men and women for their accomplishments, why not be glad for them.  They’ve taken our advice, applied it to their game and are happy to let us know the results.

Personally, I feel a little proud when someone takes some advise I may have provided and gets their first honor score, or even shooting their personal best.  Makes me feel like I can still contribute to the game.

About a month ago I was pot bowling against some local guys... and the 1st game a guy goes brooklyn to win the game. The 2nd game the same guys goes brooklyn in the 3rd and 7th and wins again.

So you have never had a brooklyn strike and won the game you got it in? Did you take the strike off your score to make it seem more fair? Umm, no, you didn't you took the score won the game, and got the points, money, whatever you were playing for.

About a month ago two of the pros were on the PBA telecast, it was the final round, I can't remember who it was, but both of them had a Brooklyn strike. Neither of them complained about it, and they were both happy that the pins carried. No matter how good of a bowler you are, sooner or later, you are going to get a lucky shot. Just take it in stride because the winnings still spend the same, whether the winning strike was brooklyn or pocket.

You're all going to think I'm BSing, but at our local house, the shot is seemingly more difficult than a typical house shot.  I haven't completely figured it out yet, but our oil pattern probably goes about 50-52', and the isn't very much dry, only on the outer 2 or 3 boards.  I don't know what the hell is wrong with this place, they seem to oil pretty often!  And for proof, the place is packed every day (40 lanes), with lots of leagues, but it it's history, there have only been 3-4 perfect games rolled.  And since last summer, the highest score rolled I've seen was a 234.  Now, the people here don't suck.  My friend throws his tornado 12 mph, and he still doesn't get a vrey big hook.  I have a SmashR, and I have to play down and in, covering very few boards (at 16 mph).  I am getting a Diesel Particle to combat these conditions.  But for proof, I went to one of the local tournaments, and everyone from our lanes were doing much better, I'd say 30 pins on average.

So I'd be upset if I got an honor score, and people started bashing me.

Good post, I couldnt agree more. Regardless of conditions, if someone has a big night or consistently shoots big scores and averages high, they need to be congratulated for those feats.

It makes me wonder though. There arent many 300's shot in my house, so could it be that my house is one of the more "difficult" walls to bowl on. Dont get me wrong, there are some high averages, but not many honor scores. I always thought that the oil at my house transitioned rather quickly, maybe it actually does and makes the shot more difficult at a quicker pace!!

I agree 100%. Just this week I shot 654, which really isn't a great score for most on here. The thing is I did it by going 30 clean, I got all my strikes & spares no opens. The cool thing about the league is that some guy almost shot 300, and the whole league(even the guy who almost shot 300)were more impressed by what I did. I did win the 30 clean pot, about 500 bucks, not bad.

Then just be mad and go kick a ball return!

Lanes are too easy!  The conditions should be made so tough that only the best of the best of the best can ever dream of shooting an award score!  That way EVERYONE knows they earned it!  Now, as it is, honor scores are GIVEN to everyone!  There's no skill involved anymore, it's all about whoever has the right hook in a box for that condition!

LOL.  Is this stuff what you're mad about?

Sorry you're mad Sr.

I generally will congratulate anyone who is posting their achievements here on the board. How am I supposed to know what the pattern they shot it on was like? I applaud all that can sack up and finish out the 10th of a 300, or the last game of an 800 regardless of pattern.

However, I have never bowled any of my honor scores on a wall, ever, ......really. </sacasm off>

People assume too much anymore when they here of good scores anymore.  With so many more honor scores shot these days, people ask how many 300's you've had instead of just congratulating you for a good game.  Unfortunately, with the common THS, some of these assumptions are valid.

A good friend of mine called to tell me he shot a 300 game and after I congratulated him, he almost seemed to apologize because the shot was easy and he knew it.  I told him that while his accomplishment cannot be measured along the same lines as a 300 game shot in the 60's, that he should still be very proud of what he did.  I told him that there are thousands of bowlers who bowl on THS's every day, but not everyone shoots a perfect game.  He said he was proud that every ball was in the pocket and that even though his knees were wobbly on the 12th shot, he still let go of a quality delivery.  I couldn't believe that I actually had to boost his confidence after shooting a 300.  I guess he thought I would judge his game without even seeing it.

Is this what we've come to?  Automatically assuming your 300 game is tainted because the shot was easy.  Sad, sad, sad.

I almost felt my 300 game wasn't as good as it could have been because of the way people on here and anywhere seem to view them.

It's like, "Hey man I threw a 300 game today!"

Instead of congratulating them the first thing that comes out of people's mouths is, "That house is easier compared to other houses."

What the hell?

Not for nothing but a 300 game is not an easy thing to do. Yes some houses may be a bit easier overall in terms of getting pin bounce and the amounts of oil on the lane. But holy crap, half of the people talking **** haven't even bowled a 300 game.

There is a little more to it than the just the lane conditions and so forth. The key is having a consistent and accurate release on every shot. Sure people definitely bowl more 300 games nowadays than they did in the 1960s. But also I don't see the ABC coming in to check lane conditions to make sure they adhere to certain standards otherwise your 300 game was disallowed. A veteran bowler was telling me about this about a month ago. If this was the case these days it would be interesting to see how many games would be disallowed by the ABC.

But regardless, if someone bowls a consistent and accurate game hitting the pocket on every shot and they post a great score they should be congratulated without having some idiot question where they bowled.

I agree 100%

Don't hate, congratulate

The only time to have something bad to say
about a bowler bowling good, is when he is the guy putting out the shot
