change in equipment line.....need advice
« on: May 15, 2005, 05:25:34 AM »
I am currently throwing a Punisher, and I really want to try ot Morich products.  I am thinking, that the ball that will roll similar to the punisher, will be the S&A.  Now, I think that the S&A is the lighter oil ball for the Mo line, which obviously would replace my punisher.  I am also moving to a house next season, that lays down some serious oil I geuss.  Actually, i talked to someone who works there last night, and he says they lay it down heavy with crazy backends.  Now, am I guessing correctly, if I say that a 2nd Mo ball could be the WMB, or a Mayhem?  I am hoping that I win this drawing soon, lol, so I can get one of these balls.

Koabzilla,
I agree that the Punisher is a lighter oil ball but the S&A is anything but.
It is very aggressive. It is a great piece but I can't use mine at all on dry lanes. Mo does have a dry lane ball coming out in the summer call the Sahara...

Good Luck

Well....I am not actually looking for a light oil ball, Ill stick with my punisher for that.  I am looking for a heavier oil ball then the punisher, which is where I was thinking the S&A came in.  Then, even something for heavier then that, being the WMB.

Koabzilla,

If the backends are "crazy" you would probably cover that condition with the S&A as well.

The S&A may or may not roll similiar to the Punisher. It is asymmetrical, so it is going to roll the way the layout determines it to.

I should prolly mention that im a cranker with some good speed on the ball.  I have looked into that ravage as well.  I am doing a lot of reading on these balls from past reviews so that is helping me also.  It does seem that the Ravage and S&A maybe very close in reaction to each other, but I am reading better reviews for the S&A then from the Ravage.

I have the Ravage, the S & A, and the WMB.  My S & A and Ravage hook similar amounts due to the layouts I have, but they hook in very different spots.  My Ravage hooks 6-8 feet earlier and is more readable on the backend.  The S & A is harder off the breakpoint, and can be very erratic if the backends are screaming.  For what you are looking for, I think the Ravage would be a great choice.  Use a control layout provided by MoRich, knock the factory finish off the ball with something around 800-1000 (I used a grey pad), and put a relatively large size weighthole on you axis point.  This will give you a nice early roll to that will read the oil nicely, and it will not overreact on the backend.  The hit and carry on this ball is simply amazing.  I have had a bunch of big sets with this ball in houses that are notorious for bad carry.  As for the WMB, lay it out with a max leverage drilling, and a large weighthole in the thumb positive quadrant.  This will give you a very early roll for heavy oil, and don't be afraid to tamper with the surface.  The ball is very adjustable, and I have hit with ball bite then a grey pad, and it covers the medium-heavy condition I encounter.
It has been said many times and I will say it again.  DO NOT JUST LAYOUT MORICH BALLS WITH CONVENTIONAL LAYOUTS.  Use Mo's provided layout sheets, or consult Freddy at MoRich through their drilling suggestions link on their website.  MoRich balls are very versatile with incredible carry power.  Be sure to maximize these characteristics with the layout of your balls.

I've seen the Ravage and the Shock and Awe in action from two different types of bowlers: strokers and crankers. Both seem to prefer the Ravage over the Shock and Awe as far as a light to medium-light oil ball, it's more controllable at the breakpoint. Shock and Awe definitely seems much snappier at the breakpoint.

At a recent tournament I bowled a few weekends ago in Vermont, the people who scored well were using balls like the Punisher, Flashpoint and Ravage.

go with a Shock & Awe and a WMB to round it out......that would be a great 3 ball arsenal!  The new Sahara will have the Punisher cover w/ a modified Ravage core, it's going to be a medium to light oil ball depending on drilling and prep .........but......

those 3 and you should be able to cover a ton of conditions........

Traumatize is right!!  CONSULT W/ MoRICH!!  And/or.....ensure you're driller is very familiar w/ MoRich stuff....just don't punch holes in them!
