axis tilt changes
« on: January 25, 2010, 03:59:10 AM »
I noticed the past 2 league nites that when i remove my wrist brace i can change from my normall tilt of less than 25deg. to the range of 30-60deg.

Does the changeing of ones tilt have any effect on their PAP?

Whats the benefit of different tilt ranges?

Also noticed that my ve is soaking up oil... threw my Freeze on the same line and it came back with a good amount of oil where the VE came back dry..polish worn off of ve?

Are you sure you're talking about axis tilt, or could it be axis rotation?  30 - 60 degrees of axis tilt is almost a helicopter release.  --  JohnP

Using the tape is just a rough estimate.  Measure your track diameter to really know what your axis tilt is.  The links to see are in the axis tilt section of the Unofficial FAQ stickie at the top of the Miscellaneous forum page.  --  JohnP

Sounds plausible - IMHO, it is the result of your hand tilting "inwards". Wrist supports like MoRo's ProRelease even offer an adjustment for this "trick".
What happens, as far as I can tell from release experiments in training, is that it raises the PAP/lowers the track. You also get more side rotation, and as a consequence by tendency more skid in the front part of the lane with a stronger/flipper back end move - but the ball might lack roll and become prone to deflection. It is IMHO a strategy/adjustment option when the heads fade away.

The different oil absorptions are IMO just the result of the coverstock designs. Some balls, esp. when new, are real sponges, which suck up any lane conditioner before the ball comes back to the rack. Keep an eye on it - when you find more oil after a while, it could be time for an oil extraction (since the cover has become saturated, and performance might start to wane).
