Question about drilling...
« on: January 15, 2009, 01:23:47 AM »
I am starting to feel less confident with each ball drilled that my driller is properly drilling for my bowling style.  Prior to my last 2 balls, I averaged 210, was able to use any ball in my bag and get a great reaction, regardless of how many games were on the ball.

Since then, I had an Attitude Shift drilled, which I never really liked, probably used it for 20-30 games.  This ball just never felt like it came off my hand well.  As a result, I have run into a problem where I am obviously gripping the ball to tight and my thumb swells like never before.

I recently got a Cell Pearl drilled.  It was the Cell Pearl that the pro shop owner drilled.  He watched me throw the Attitude, we went over drillings, and decided on one.   When I came to pick up my ball, the drilling was totally different than we agreed upon.  He told me he had to make a few adjustments.  I do not know if he was doing his due diligence, or if he just screwed up the drill.  Again, my ball still doesn't feel good off my hand.  I can't get a consistent release like I used to and my thumb continues to swell.

Question:  If I posted pictures of my Cell Pearl, would one of you drillers be able to tell me how this was drilled and compare it with the layout that I intended to have.  If there is a drastic difference, this will probably be the last time I use this proshop.  It is a shame since its very convenient, being in the same house as I bowl my leagues.

I do not know my PAP etc, b/c the proshop owner never quite tells me the exact way he drills, or the measurements he uses.  I guess this is so that I don't start getting balls drilled online.

If the ball feels bad in your hand then you need to check if all balls have the same pitches, and spans. The layout is irrelevant.

Did the driller determine your PAP location?  If so, and he layed it out to the pin to PAP and other parameters of the drill sheet, it probably won't look like the picture on the drill sheet (unless your PAP happens to have the same location as what was used when they drew the layout picture).  Also, the layout you wanted may have put the pin too close to a hole, so he adjusted it a little to keep the warranty in effect.  --  JohnP
