What do you do when someone is throwing for a 300 game?
« on: April 10, 2012, 12:55:40 PM »
League night. Your have finished your games, but the lanes beside you have not. You notice there is guy on those lanes with 8 in a row (four more to go for a 300).

Do you stay and watch him throw for a 300?

What if it was for a 800 series?

How about if was the almighty 900 series?

I would stay and watch all of them.

300, no, unless I knew it was their first 300.
800, same as above.
900 I would stay for.

How nice of you.   Nothing like the pressure of being expected to shoot a 300/800 at State.

Ok, if you shoot a 300 or 800 while we are bowling State in a couple of weeks, I will stay and watch.

In most cases, if I know the person (likely), I'll stick around. No matter how many 300/800's a person has thrown, there is still a little bit of special to it. I've had my share, but I always appreciate the people who hang out to acknowledge the feat.

Pack up my equipment and go home?

After throwing my 480 set, I'm not in the mood to high-five anyone .

I would always stay for a 300, 800 and especially a 900.  If I was on lane 40 and I knew someone was bowling a possible 300 or 800 I would walk down and watch.  I know 300s and 800s are a lot more frequent then in years past, but I still to see that during the 12 frame the pin flies across the pin deck and take out the 10 pin.

I'd stay and watch the 300, just out of respect, if I noticed it before walking out the door.

800 or 900?  Although I know these are worthy accomplishments.... probably even more so than a 300, the only way I would know they were gunning for that is if I had watched the bowler all night or if someone told me. Otherwise, how would I know that his/her earlier scores had been high enough to warrant interest in the total series pinfall?

I thought it was required to stay and watch, if for nothing other than the side betting and the "loud whispers" of "I bet he rings the 10!"?

But seriously, having been a member of this site for 8 years, I know the proper thing to do......

300, 800, or 900 doesn't matter.  If they do accomplish one of those, you should promptly walk over and tell the person that they are a house hack, that their accomplish doesn't mean squat, and if they think they are so great they should go pro!

Didn't someone roll a 900 in New York last night or the night before?

800/900 first 300 yes.

But no on bowlers with several 300's in the bag, unless it's someone I know.

These days I'm in a rush to get home, especially with leagues ending passed 11-11:30pm. (start time 9PM)

We had 2 300 opptunities at our house yesterday same league.  1) on our set of lanes my partner had the front 9 he was crushing the pocket, we were chatting and having a good time as we always do and of course no mention of the possible 300.  As we were having a conversation a knucklehead from the opposing team comes over and asks my team mate "Do you have 3 more in you?"   I'm thinking are you Kidding Me "REALLY"  My team mate just blew him off, luckly my team mate has 4-300's  I'd of really been hot if it was his 1st go at it.  Long story short team mate leave a ringing 10-pin 1st ball in the 10.   300 gone.

2) bowler everyone knew he had a chance at the 300 had front nine, everyone left him alone to do his own thing, and guess what a 300 game..

In Closing if you notice there's a chance for a 300, Do Just That!  Notice!!!... Don't say anything.. Don't  tell anyone just watch and enjoy.

Off topic, but reading that reminded me of Friday night.  Third game, I'm on front eight, and a guy from the next pair (who, oh by the way, had shot 300 the week before) comes up and stands behind our score table, and says, "I just want to watch you throw this shot."  I'm guessing he wanted to try to rattle me a bit so that I wouldn't tie him for high game.      So I go up and throw an atomic blower, just for him.      He walked away without saying anything, and he stayed in his settee while I bowled my 10th frame.
