Back Surgery Monday
« on: October 03, 2013, 10:57:28 PM »
Rectal cancer last year and cheno daily for 6 weeks, radiation daily for 6 weeks, then surgery twice for removal of most of rectum, then chemo for 4 months and finally I thought the worse was over, but no, back problems developed. Fought it for 3 months or so and finally had both a cat scan and bone scan which showed compressed fractures of my L1 & L5 vertabrae.  So, Monday surgery on my back to fix the 2 fractures as well as do a biopsy to check for bone cancer.

It doesn't seem to end. I have only been able to bowl approx 11 times all year.  :(

Dr says I will have to drop to 12# balls after surgery if I want to bowl.  :-\

Brick, good luck with your back surgery.  I had a ruptured disc about 15 years ago and had surgery for that.  Doctor also told me to use 12# balls when I started back up bowling again but after a few months I was back to 15# after he gave the okay.  It may be difficult, but try to keep a positive attitude thoughout.

All seems to have went well with my back surgery today. I am now home. Currently have a bit of pain but that is to be expected and it isn't all that bad.

Using a walker to walk and then hopefully "back on my feet" in a couple of days.

As for the bone biopsy checking for bone cancer, the results should be available around Friday or so. The Dr said it didn't look like cancer, but will still have to wait on biopsy results to see if it is or is not.

Jim,

"Home" beats the heck out of the hospital.  Take good care of that back so you can return to the game we all love/hate...

Brick,  glad to hear that you are home after a successful surgery.  Do all of the therapy that they recommend, it really does help.
