Who in thier right mind would pay anymore than $4.99 for this ball?? I don't care if its NIB or not.. Its a piece of junk and nothing more than a spare ball for the lane conditions of today..

He was offered $1000 for it, yea right!!

NICE ONE.

I've NEVER seen this thing before, could be a limited edition ball.  Maybe that's why it's worth so much?

It's just a spare ball anyways.  You go, eBayer!

The guy who used to drill my equipment has one in his shop, NIB.  It's a paperweight

I think it's really pretty.  If I had discretionary income, I'd bid.  Why not?  Since I'm not winning the lottery any time soon, that ball will stay on Ebay

Not that there's really any intrinsic value to the Gold Crown, but the seller's description is absolutely correct.  It is a very rare ball and Brunswick did use real gold flake round the core.  If I am remembering correctly, it cost about $50 in the late '60's, when no other ball was more than $30.  I had one for awhile...at the time it was one of the softest plastic balls made, so it was a big hooker.  Johnny Petraglia made the show using one at least once that I can recall.

If you've ever thought about using plastic on dry lanes, this would be a great piece...but not at that price.

The ball would be illegal today if it had gold in it at all. One of the rules in the abc handbook states that metal cannot be present at all in a bowling ball. The ball is worth about 250, not 500.

Hey lgruen,

Good to see you out here again and again I agree with you.  This is actually a very rare ball with "real" gold flakes in it.  I also remember the show that Petraglia used it in, it was a long time ago.  Stanski's right though, it would be deemed illegal for ABC use due to the foreign metals rule but if you bought it, would you actually want to drill it?

Just like anything else guys, one man's trash is another's treasure....what did Barry Bonds 700th homer go for?  I wouldn't pay $800,000+, I'd rather bid on Rags socks...

That rule is for current production, balls produced before the rule was made are still legal (grandfather clause).

Well looks like someone is willing to pay 500 for it! There's a bid now.
