Backup ball
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:28:02 PM »
Inconsistency at my house with the senior league just gets worse with each new season as the oils and cleaners change. As usual, left side is barely used, has anyone out there tried using a backup ball to gain more consistency?
Back in the day when I threw full roller, it was easy to throw, need to retrain muscle memory if I try this which takes time so input appreciated.

I found the same problem so moved way to the left on the approach so I could try a totally new oil line with limited success. It also opened up the possibility of losing a few into the gutter, which I hate.  My idea was to stay on the oil as long as possible to create a deeper skid before the ball hooked into the pocket.
However, I have discovered that the longest part of the oil pattern is down the middle, so I will now try coming inside a little further - try it yourself in practice - bowl a couple straight down the middle and you will see a lot less boards covered.
Armed with this knowledge, I will experiment with new lines to the pocket.
I don't know if you already knew all this or not, but hope it helps you.
