Best solid for med/hvy?
« on: February 23, 2012, 01:22:51 PM »
Looking for a solid that is smooth and predictable, but with some angularity on the backend. Suggestions?

900 Global Eagle or Break Out if you can find one. Same ball, just difference colors. Latest version is black. Surface adjustments work well and ball is very versatile.

Roll with 900 Global.

I'm actually using the purple Eagle as my heavy oiler. It's at 2000 abralon.

Lane #1 Droid. Very smooth and controllable, but still offers some bite in the oil and makes a strong move on the backend.

Here's a video of mine in action:

I know it is out of production, but I was and still am impressed by VBP's Frankie May Gryphon. Since I play with rather slow speed I had mine taken to 1.500 grit right from the start (instead of dull 400 matte), and this bally has been a great and versatile piece on medium to medium-oily conditions for me. Strong cover, easily tuneable - it even flips on the back end when I got enough oil up front and a clean back end area!

Columbia Ransom Demand!  Very good ball if you like to change hand positions and play multiple lines.  Carry is awesome!

Columbia Dark Encounter - Good smooth reaction with some angularity on the backend and can handle the med/heavy shot very easily.

I would suggest the Brunswick C*(Ssystem) versa-max or the DV8 Too Reckless.  They have a solid coverstock with polish on them.  The polish can be removed on either one to make it start up a little sooner on the lane.  The versa-max is the definition of smooth reaction!

I'm hearing (and seeing) some really good things regarding the new Pursuits. The Nexus also seems like a good choice, as does the new 716T.

Aren't these a little bit on the strong side. The original poster was looking for something to fit between an Onyx Vibe and a 2000 grit Eagle.
