Western Michigan/Illinois/South Bend Tourneys/Leagues
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:32:05 AM »
I started a new job and recently moved from the Detroit area to Benton Harbor, MI (near Kalamazoo) It is a bit too late to join leagues in the middle of the second half so I would like to bowl in some tourneys in the area to continue to develop my game.

Can you guys recommend or alert me to any tourneys taking place in my area? I would even be willing to make the 1.5-2.5 hour drive into certain parts of Illinois. I finally got my game to a respectable level, found a great driller, developed an arsenal and then the big move came, really screwed me up. I don't know anybody out here which makes it much harder to imbed myself in the bowling community here. Thanks in advance to any replies.

There was a fun annual 12-game scratch tourney in Niles last weekend, watch for the Stanley Open again next February, great payouts and challenging conditions.  At the end of this month there is a scratch tourney in Goshen, played on this year's Baton Rouge oil pattern and on anvil lanes.

Also, there is a monthly travelling tourney you can check out here:  http://www.mba300.com

lhooker,

the Michiana Bowlers Association is spot on for good competition,  I'm up in Grand Rapids, but my ex-collegiate bowling teammate David Lange is down in the Stevensville/Benton Harbor area,  he is a former member of the Junior Team USA in 2005 and he can probably hook you up with some information on stuff to bowl in the area.  Dave used to be a ball driller at the Proshop inside AMF Blossom Lanes in Benton Harbor, along with Jason Utter and Long time PBA member Bill Froberg, Froberg now owns Kelley's bowl in St. Joseph, and between these 3 guys I can assure you they are the most knowledgeable about bowling in the Benton Harbor/Michiana Area.  Hope this Helps.  PM me if you would like to get in contact with Dave, also we got some really big scratch tournaments coming up in the Grand Rapids Area in May, I can provide you with details on those too.

If Joliet, IL isn't too far they run a monthly tournament with varying formats on a harder than your run of the mill league condition.

heres the website link where you can find information

Astrikingchink, thanks for the reply. Any additional info you can provide would be great. I am just your average house hack but im one of the few that enjoys getting my arse kicked on more challenging patterns or facing better competition.

Joliet, IL isn't too far away, I can make the occasional trip there if my schedule permits. Thanks again for the responses fellaz.
