I'm sure it's probably already been said...

...but this is the best bowling site on the Web, top to bottom. Sure, we have some trolls that come out from time to time. But we also have knowledgeable people who will quickly answer questions (even over and over, without getting upset at the newbies or those of us who haven't been able to make the search function make sense), and share their mistakes so that others will not also make them.

This site also "gets it" regarding the sport, where it is and where it's going. There isn't a lot of pent-up bitterness about the glory days or resentment towards those that have grown up in the modern era. Occasionally a thread will pop up with those elements but it doesn't dominate the conversation for long.

And, having been to one of the Gatherings in North Carolina, I can say that the people behind the usernames are real and friendly, and patient even with us mid-average hacks who occasionally aspire to believe we belong on the lanes.

We don't judge the ball addicts, we respect and admire our PBA members, we listen to the coaches and the old ball drillers, and (mostly) all of us take the knowledge and encouragement we've collected here through the week with us when we go to our leagues and tournaments, hoping to succeed and then be able to come back and share it here with our friends.

So thanks to all who will still say "good shooting" when someone celebrates his first 550+ series, who will take the time to politely explain to a neophyte that the pin in a ball isn't just a big plastic dot, and who will spend countless hours picking apart the nuances of a PBA Experience shot or the physics behind RG and differential so that we can claim to understand our sport as well as play it and represent it.

This is not to take away from some other fine sites that support our sport (BBE, bowlingchat, absolutebowling, etc.) but rather just to thank the membership of this site for making it what it is -- a good community.

Likewise, I agree 100%.  I got a ball from a guy on here and it had a little hole below the thumb and I had no idea what it was.  I haven't bowled league or bought a ball in over 2.5 years and so I asked...he responded very kindly saying it's vent hole and what the purpose is...I felt like an idiot lol

Very well said!  This has also been said before, but it is like a family and, yes it can be a bit dysfunctional at times

Dysfunctional, yes, but also full of emotion - just like any family.

Great post, Jess! And a big cheer to the BR.com community, with some very helpful, experienced and unpretentiopus people out there/here who make this site a "good place" for everyone.

Let's keep it up, it is everyone's responsibility.

Nice post, Jess, but how do you feel about it religiously and politically?

LL Wants to come to USA to buy a brunswick ball, have it drilled, get it signed by a BR member, and hope to bowl with some of us some day. WOW!....it goes to show you that some of us take little things for granted. Like, just being able to bowl in this country.

Nice post LL...And I hope you get the opportunity to come here and fulfill your goal. Good luck to ya!

Well, I'd also like to see some of the BR.com fellow users in "real life", e. g at the annual gathering. What I find very positive around here is that there is - at least among the long-time users - a very respectful tone. I was and am also very surprised how international "we" are, with users not only from the US, but from Asia and Europe, too.

Can't be that bad of a place - and I am with LL - I have seen other forums, also national ones, but this is by far the most helpful to me. Ask a question, and you can be sure to receive some founded opinions and suggestions in very short time.

Sad that some users have gone, or may just be watching from far.

It's good to see posts praising this site instead of bashing it.  I've been around roughly five years now because of the good information and posters.  I don't post real often, just when I think I have something to contribute that hasn't already been said by someone else, but I read posts on four of the forums almost every day.  --  JohnP

Yeah, that's the one board here I don't visit. Way too many people fired up about stuff they can't change over there. Non-sports forums on sports boards are hit or miss and unfortunately, that's this site's "miss."
