Ball Weight
« on: March 24, 2009, 02:43:24 AM »
Hey Guys,

this is not intented to start a discussion what's best: 14,15 or 16 pounders but I'm switching from 14 to 15 pound at the moment and looking to build an arsenal for the next season.

My questions:

1) I plan to keep my spare ball at 14# -> good idea or not?
2) for my 'light-oil'-ball, I plan on keeping a 14# to help me get my speed up more easily , allthough speed is not a problem for me normally, as I'm speed dominant -> good idea ? or should I just buy a 15# with a more tame drilling ?

If there are guys here throwing 2 diff weights: I'll like to hear from you.

grtz.

I don't know about you but with me 2 different weights caused major timing issues.

I have tried your idea and it didn't work for me.Going back and forth between weights destroyed my timing, which in turn caused me not to strike and spare as much, which lowered my scores in general.Lower scores weren't fun,so I went back to throwing all the same weight again.

My spare ball is 14#, all my other stuff is 15#.

I'll be switching back to a 15# spare after this season is over. Timing goes to hell when I have to pick up a lot of spares over the course of 3 games..switching back and forth between weights is possible though. Just expect to have to keep an eye on your timing.

I have a couple of 14 pounders in reserve in case of injury, otherwise I throw all 15 lbs.  Didn't see much reason for not having all balls the same weight as "feel" really makes a difference in my timing and release.

ok, thanks for the comments so far.
I guess the right thing to do is make a complete switch to the 15 pounders, maybe keep a 14 aside as lefty says

Still think I'll keep my 14 spare though, I bowled a few times in league now with the 15# as strikeball, and 14 for 7 pins, only missed 1 out off 15 or so -as long as I keep that ratio, I'm happy 'bout it.
