bad roll on the ball
« on: January 22, 2005, 07:05:48 AM »
i dont know what ive been doing, but lately it seems i cant put a good roll on the ball.  Basically, my ball now spins more on its side.  A lot more.  Anyone have any ideas on what i might be doing in my release to cause this?

more then likely you just need to stay up the back of the ball more. You could be coming around it too much, to the point where its not side roll, but spin on the ball.

Did you recently buy a new ball or have your old one re-drilled?  If so, you could have your span wrong a bit.

If not, then it is definitely something you are doing now that you didn't do before. Figure that out and you will get back to throwing the ball like you want.

P.S. With me, sometimes when I get my feet ahead of my armswing, I muscle the ball and my hand goes around the ball causing the effect you are talking about. Might look into the timing thing if all else fails.

yes, i did buy a new ball, however, i had it drilled to the specs of one of my other balls which used to roll perfectly off my hand.  now neither of them do.

Check out Ron's tips in the link in my signature.  Lots of good stuff.  The Bowler's Release, Just let it Fall, and Working through a Slump might be the best ones to start with.
