Bad Sportsmanship or just getting an edge?
« on: May 03, 2011, 05:52:34 AM »
May be bad sportsmanship is not the right word but, in our league during position round the 1st place team was bowling the second place team with a 5 pt lead. Team 1 enjoys a few drinks during the games. Team 2 bought Red Bull vodka shots for Team 1 while drinking shots of Red Bull only . Leading team 1 to assume shots were the same. Needless to say Team 2 wins the league.........Smart or unfair??

Nobody made em drink the things.

If team 1 drank enough free booze to get soused enough to lose, it was their own fault.

Team 2 is PURE genius!  Probably one of the oldest tricks in the book (prolly have to dig REAL) deep to find it.  Team 2 is the thinking team, and much like genius, they KNEW their opponents personality and took advantage of their lack of discipline.  Team 2 DESERVED to win.

Stupid if your the first place team. Rookie mistake, hate to see it.

Be good, or be good at it.

It was very sneaky and it was team 1's fault for not paying attention. Team 1 deserve to lose due their stupidity.

I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Team 1 is stupid if they did anything they wouldn't normally do.  If they normally drink, then no foul.  If they drank twice as much than normal because of team 2's "generosity" then it's a gray area.  I see team 2 as having potential bad sportsmanship.  It's kind of like sand bagging.  Their intent was to have team 1 drink more than they're team.

It's called having a competitive edge and knowing your opponents weakness.  Obviously they knew they liked to drink and through the season may have noticed they tend to do worse when they've had a couple of drinks in them.  Not bad sportsmanship, remember on every bottle of booze it says "drink responsibly!"

genius. way to exploit their opponents' weakness

I'm in the process of trying to find out where I fit in the bowling world. I do not know my tech specs of my game, but it's all a learning process.

pretty assine way to win on Team 2's part...they cant beat them straight up so they get them drunk as a skunk!!!but the ultimate responsiblilty is on team 1!!!they should be able to hold their alcohol better!!!!

Exploiting an opponents weakness is bad sportsmanship?  No one forced ANYONE to drink, it was all done voluntarily.  The burden is on team 1 to "be better than" drinking when the league is on the line.  Again, no one forced team 1 to accept the "generosity"...and any personal feeling of "social compusion/obligation" they would feel to HAVE to drink the shot would have been internal.

I'd like to have someone who thinks this is unfair to fill in the blank.

I said potential bad sportsmanship.  If they were implying they were drinking just as much alcohol as team 1, then it is in my eyes because they took an underhanded way to gain an advantage.  If they just straight up bought team 1 a few rounds then there is no problem.
