Mo-Rich Prices
« on: April 19, 2004, 03:23:59 AM »
Now that Mo-Rich is having brunswick make their balls for them, are they going to go up in price?  This is one of the theories behind the higher cost for lane1 balls, and I was just wondering if it will happen with the Mo-Rich stuff also?

I doubt there will be any change.  MoRich was already paying for Columbia's covers, now they'll pay for Brunswick's.  I don't have it in front of me, but I think Lane #1 has an extra step in handling or shipping their cores that could add to their price.  Dangerous putting this topic in the Misc section.  Hopefully it will stay on track.

Strider, that is what I've heard in the past, that Lane 1 has an extra expense in the shipping of their cores.

Exactly.  MoRich wasn't making their own equipment before, so why would their price go up?  Surely Mo wasn't using Columbia's covers in the past just because they were cheap.  With the volumes being produced, one cover can't actually cost more than a few cents more than another.  I know you want to recoup the initial R&D, but that cost gets spread out.

If that's the case, why aren't the other subsidiary companies more expensive?  Morich had Columbia making their stuff, AMF and Track are still made by Columbia, RotoGrip and Dynothane by Storm, NuLine/Track/Columbia, Revolution/Brunswick...  I'm not getting into who owns who vs. who's building for who, but these other companies aren't in the same location, so they must get their cores to the manufacturing company somehow.  Heck, I can ship a 15# ball for $11 most anywhere.  A big company surely is paying a fraction of that for a core.  They are much lighter and are dealing in tremendous bulk.

I not looking to pick a fight but let me point out the obvious. they don't ship 1 or 2 ball back and forth from Big B to Lane#1.

check out freight schedules for trucking company sometime. Most likely the production run of a core has to be somewhere or 500 to 1000. typical manufacture price break levels. what is Big B min run? 100? 500?

my guess is about .50c to ship to big B. ship back, if they do, can't be more than 2 or 3 bucks. bulk weight. that is not 30 bucks a ball difference. there is no significant cost between manufacturing a silver diamond than a Uranium but they certainly like to keep there profit margins.

nothing wrong with that. It's America baby! capitalism at it's best.

now as far as consumer shipping. I don't know.

there is no need to make up excuses for excessive charges. If there was a real reason other than a condo in the bahamas, some one from Lane 1 would say so once and for all. they make it, they can charge whatever they want.

the only answer to the every ugly question of "Why do they cost more" is simply.. becuse they do.
