Thumb tape Question
« on: October 13, 2009, 03:46:38 AM »
Anyone ever had a night where your thumb never felt right either too loose or too tight? Well tonight I had that type of night, No matter what I did, It never felt right. I added tape and i couldnt get my thumb in, then I took the tape out and it felt like it was falling out. Mind you this I also wear the red Hada Patch. What do all of you do to overcome this problem? I have also tried to change the sizes of tape 3/4 and 1 inch.

You might also want to take a close look at where you place the tape. Taping near the top will keep you in longer. Starting the tape 1/4 inch below the top will get you out quicker.

I've done what Steven suggested as well.  It's a minor tweak, but can definitely help when you're between pieces of tape.  If it's a hair loose, you can also blow into the thumb hole to add a little moisture to get a better grip.  Sometimes you just need to change the top piece of tape.  Sometimes they absorb some oil from your hand and get a little slick.  A fresh piece might be all you need.

I use 3/4.  When I have a problem like what you''re describing, I will take the tape and cut it length wise and only use half.

yeah I do blow in the thumbhole and it does help. But like yesterday It was so frustrating becuase i couldnt get a clean release. I will definitly try to move the tape up a little higher and see how it helps. thanks for your input!

Neon tape...it's half the thickness of white and not as rough.  I use it to for fine tweeks and it works great...wonder why they ever stopped making it?

I fight thumb problems all the time.  I have a very flat thumb, and clammy, sweaty hands.  Whenever it gets humid, I have trouble with the thumb coming out cleanly.  The sides of my thumb tend to be the culprit.  I make very, very small adjustments using FrankenTape on the sides of the thumbhole now, and this is a big help, but I STILL have troubles some days getting my thumb to cooperate.  For me, it's just the nature of having a hand that changes sizes constantly, no matter what kind of span/pitches/etc. I use.  (I also use the red Hada Patch and it's a huge help)

Watch ebay for the neon tape. Also try placing in different spots. I found out that moving the tape around I got a different feel from it.
