« on: August 12, 2009, 03:20:37 PM »
Does anybody know any useful balance drills? IVe been working on my physical game alot and sometimes i take a side step instead of posting the shot. Its kinda why i like tommy jones game......i rarely see him fall off balance.

stand on 1 leg and go through your bowling motion/swing with a dumbbell
then stand on a foam pad or pillow and do the same thing
Then do the same thing on a BOSU, ball side up and ball side down

Increase the weight as you get better
Try it with your eyes closed

1 leg and just bend down and touch the ground as if you were following through yet do it under control.

If you would like more info message me.

Falling off the shot isn't necessarily a strength problem just like more revs isn't a strength problem in the wrist.

Better balance comes from better timing and a more relaxed approach to the entire swing.  If you watch the pros even the high rev guys, rarely do they fall off.  All because they are smoother through the swing with less effort at the bottom of the swing trying to "make it hook."

Even guys with high backswings and lots of power i.e. Michael Fagan, Robert Smith, even Belmonte, all are smooth through the entire delivery.

You can have a controlled backswing like your profile says up to the top of the swing but you have to let it go from there and let gravity and wrist position do the rest.

Try to consiously tame down your approach and see how balanced you'll get.
