What's does it mean to "play the track area"?

Probably a dumb question but I'll never know if I don't ask.  Does this mean playing the area of the lane where most of the traffic is or what?

IMHO.

The track area is right around the 10 board going fairly straight. Which just about everyone plays

In the "old" days when lans were wood and you have shellaced lanes, a 'track" would develope in this area and the name kinda stuck.

So the track area would probably be considered the part of the lane that sees the most traffic during that particular session?  I was just curious because I always hear people say "I played the track area until it broke down and had to move left" and things of that nature.

Most houses the track area is 8-12 board then when the oil blows migrating left is just normal, I live and die in the track area. Luckily my rev rate is high enough to play angles farther out than most straight bowlers.
