ball bath?

im planning to give my super charge a bath. warm water and soap. is this a good idea? has anyone tried this before? my ball has more than 80 games on it already. if i do give it a bath, what effect would it have? would it be harmful or would it be helpful? thanks.

Ball bath treatment is very common. A lot of people on here do it.

Step 1: Run hot soapy water in a bucket, sink, or bath tub, but not too hot to touch

Step 2: Place ball in hot soapy water, let soak about 15 mins.

Step 3: Remove ball, and clean with a towel and some type of cleaner, like simple green or 409.

Step 4: Run more hot water so that the sink/tub/bucket is hot again, and repeat steps 1 through 3.

This should clean all the oil out of your ball. Truthfully though, at 80 games I doubt it needs it.

Let me ask you this.  Is there any reason at all that you want to do this?  has your ball lost a lot of it's reaction or something?  If it hasn't there is no reason to do this.  The only point is to try to "restore" a balls' hook if it has seem to have died.

I never cover the holes and I've have no problems. The only way you'll have a problem is if you have certain inserts that wont let the water back out. Just make sure you dry the holes after you take it out, and let the ball air dry.

I do clean my ball by hand after my league or practice with storm reacta clean, although i havent seen it lose its reaction, but our lanes are quite dirty... literally. after games you would notice dirt on your hand and on your shirt. and hence, i have dubbed our house the mechanics bowling center. haha! so basically i just want to clean my ball, get rid of the oil and dirt. and not because of loss of rection. thanks.

i use silly puddy to cover the holes(roommate has a 5pound wad of it)..works everytime....the ball may become phased in the hot(not scalding) water(gets a grey smokie look to it, goes away after a few days(maybe 5-10 days))

I would agree that I would only do a deep soaking if I've noticed a significant loss in terms of hook. Do you regularly clean your balls with some sort of recommended ball cleaner after every set of games? This would probably help to keep the ball in better condition. For the past two years I've been very faithful to cleaning my equipment after every set and I haven't noticed as significant a loss in ball reaction through a good 200 plus games on some equipment.

I run mine thru the dishwasher, with the heating element turned off.

done that too, probably works better than the water bath but my dishwasher's been having a mind of its own lately(of when it wants to work)
