Nationals
« on: March 20, 2008, 09:19:17 AM »
Just got back, and at least the lanes I bowled on they were a little sparky. Team event was at 8:30 Pm, and Doubles/Singles was at the dreaded 11:30 Pm.

You get it a little too far right ( outside 4-5) it isn't coming back. But, if you are in they jumped early and often. Depending on the angle of attack it could ( and did for a couple of our bowlers) become a very long night

Been there - done than - doesn't have to be the last squads - we were at the mercy of the bowlers on the shift before us - S&D (11:40A) was 3 pairs of mixed doubles before us after a team event that no one was scheduled

Weaser,  If you were on the 11:40am Dbls&Sgls squad, the only thing before you was 2 squads of Dbls&Sgls (7:00am and 9:30am).  Team squads are only at 2:30pm and 8:30pm..

Sorry - no S&D scheduled at 7A - only 1 set at 9:20 (lanes 25 & 26 @ right of runway) so they had fresh & we had carrydown with no burn area - 5 of 6 were outside 10 with shiny equipment & other lady was throwing plastic up 13 - shot would hold for 3-4 frames & then disappear - ended up throwing very shiny Sahara off corner last 2 games

In the minors you are always at the mercy of the people who bowled in front of you.

Look at the current singles leader (817).

He shot 545 in doubles before switching pairs for singles. I doubt he suddenly got that much better.

The people bowling doubles before the switch could have opened it up for him. Or he could have been playing the wrong part of the lane and made an adjustment.

Generally, you are correct for the doubles though.

I gambled well, the Sandia is a real nice Casino, they have a shuttle that'll come and get you, then take you back to your hotel

Why can't they oil for every squad?  I agree, that you are at the mercy of the previous squads that bowl before you, I know we are suppose to adjust(no I'm not crying just voicing my opinion).  Just seems more fair if they oiled before each squad.  I bowled Minors last friday and bowled pretty well in doubles(638), then moved for singles and lanes were toast by the time we got to them and fired 570.

I had the opposite. Doubles was a disaster - 525.
Singles was as bad, if I didn't switch to the B/G Centaur and moved back outside where they burnt a track. However, if I added any rotation at all (my normal is about 45-50 degrees), the ball ducked-hooked into the nose. I do not normally do a 0 degree release; so it was difficult. After a 170 start, I was thrilled to shoot 2 200s to finish around 570.

If I ever go again, I will bowl minors at 7 AM or worst, at 8:30 AM if I have to get up at 5 AM, so be it.

I wish, like Pat, that they'd oil EVERY squad. I'd pay extra to have that EQUALITY! Instead of being shut out, without any opportunity.

As a "Joe Bowler", I'm willing to sacrifice 4 - 5 frames (plus warm-ups) to find a line; however I'm not willing to sacrifice 2 games out of every 3 games to find a line. I am not a Norm Duke and I shouldn't have to be to score a lousy 1800 at Nationals.

Grrrrr ....
