DV8 Brutal Nightmare
« on: March 13, 2013, 08:06:38 AM »
Currently throwing a Nitro R/2, I know ancient, looking at getting a Brutal Nightmare. Thoughs on what to expect? It's been quite a few years since I bowled on a regular basis. Looking to get into a summer & would like a new ball.

Thanks for the input

The Brutal Nightmare would be a much stronger ball than the Nitro R/2. Not knowing your ball speed, normal area of the lane you play, or the house conditions; I would think that a Marauder Madness or Diva would be a better ball to ease back into a league. Or in the Brunswick line, a Meanstreak or a Meanstreak Brawler. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I would say my ball speed is a medium speed and I usually stand just left of center & shot for 2nd arrow. I'm currently in a mixed league and it seems like it's a THS

The Brutal is one of the more aggressive, albeit best, balls on the market.  The entirety of the DV8 line seems to have similar reaction characteristics with varying degrees of aggressiveness, meaning you can get a ball that acts similar to the Brutal with a lower hook potential.  I would echo the suggestion on the Diva, it's one of the better benchmark balls I've seen in a while.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

I've seen a reaction video from bowlingball.com of the Brutal Nightmare with a guy throwing a similar line as I do. I'll assume even if I had the Brutal Nightmare drilled the same way as my Nitro, it will react completely different. Correct me if I'm wrong

You assume correctly.  If the guy in the video is throwing a similar line as you do with a Nitro . . he's got tons more oil than you do, guaranteed.

The Brutal will hook a lot more at the end so stand left, throw right.
You may as well keep your nitro for drier lanes and shooting spares.

@Gizmo, he is on 38' THS using 26 Units of Oil. Curlie Becton has a similar line as I do.
Link to the video, he starts around 2:06 in the video

Ok, but my point is that the Brutal hooks tons more than the Nitro, so wherever you stand to throw that, you'll definitely have to move left several boards for the Brutal.
