Getting back into it after 4+ year layoff
« on: May 06, 2009, 09:05:01 AM »
Hello everyone

It's been a long time since I posted here.  I think it's been close to four years since I did.  A quick story if anyone cares, lol.  I had to retire from my 2 leagues because of a new work schedule and never knew when I'd be able to bowl and when I was bowling, some nights I had those feelings that I'd rather be somewhere else than at the lanes.  I knew it was time to take a break.  Well, forward 2 years and someone broke into my balcony and stole a bunch of my equipment shortly after I started throwing for recreation again.  My Storm Streamline, SST6's, tools, towels, cleaners, Ebonite Ice, Matrix 1, Reaper 2, and yankee doodle ball were in that bag.  The first 3 balls were basically brand new with less than 15 games each on them, the Matrix and Reaper were replacements for others that I had previously that got damaged.  Anyways, after that I didn't have the heart to replace anything at that time.

But, lately I'm getting a major itch, so I searched through my closet and found the following:
Monster Bruiser
Rock Sta
Riot Zone
Lightning Flash
Vortex Pearl

So I ordered up some fresh SST8's last night and some tools, cleaner, and towels.  Now I need to re-teach myself how to bowl.  I used to post some videos and get advice on here and those who helped were awesome I must say.

I'm going to be buying another Streamline 4 ball roller from a local shop here in Vegas since they are on sale for 140 right now.  I'm also considering the purchase of two new balls, possibly three if I grab a plastic for those corners.

If anyone has any suggestions or tips for easing back into it including practice and whatnot, please let me know.  Any help would be appreciated!

Drrev thank you for the tips.  I'm certainly expecting the soreness but I believe I have a good driller located nearby that I'm going to get some work done at.  I used to be ok averaging 215 and 227 on two leagues when I had to step back for awhile.  Getting the hand re-measured is a good idea.  Granted the equipment I have seems to fit well but I won't really know for sure what my fit is until I get everything measured again.
Anyways, thanks again!
